This is such a great video. Now that I have a ph meter on my tank full time, I see the ph drops to 7.6 7.7 a little bit low for my taste. Just ordered the seachem tang buffer and will add it to my top up water and I think this will help boost the ph better. Great video!

Really an awesome video. Thanks for the tips of Tanganyika buffer. But the issue I faced, it's difficult to understand the dose for the buffer according to the top up water volume and even after adding the water with pH 8 after two days it got dropped to 7.4 in the main tank, not sure why this fluctuation happened.

@@didnthurt4077 biofilm grows on the surface of algae. They don't really "eat" the algae, but the biofilm on it. You see people talk about green algae walls as beneficial and that is because it has more surface area for algae to grow on

@@worldofaquariums5534 thanks for the clarification! The storeguy told me they eat mainly algae not biofilm so thats why im wondering. Currently im in week 2 cycling my sula tank and i have a lot of biofilm already and very little algae. I added a full scoop of bacter ae so this works pretty well for establishing biofilm. Will reduce the dosage from now on not to create any inbalances. Going to add some neos in 2 weeks to clean up the tank and wait another month for the tank to be fully cycled. Very excited to keep sulas :)

@didnthurt40772 жыл бұрын
Definetly not! Sulas are probably from all freshwater shrimps the hardest to keep. Neos are best for beginners. Once you gain knowledge and kept neos sucessfully the next level are caradina and after that sulas. Each species needs specific water parameters that get stricter moving up each level.

Substrate is utterly meaningless to what it can do to the tank compared to a good-sized lava rock with the right or wrong bacteria colonies living in it. I think it's best to colonize porous rocks with beneficial bacteria for about a week in a filtered tank before building up the main tank with substrate & porous rocks. It'll make water changes easier or even render them unnecessary.

How long have u cycled tank for? And what are your water parameters. Sulawesi shrimp are one of the hardest shrimps to keep, comparing to caridina shrimp and neocaridina.
@AVIKO6074 жыл бұрын
ive had my yellow cheek sulawesi for roughly a week , what i find key is stability and that they are mildly adaptable but its always best to match your water to the sellers setup , if you have imported the harlequins theyll have a higher chance of death throughout shipping and even after theyve been put in the tank
@didnthurt40772 жыл бұрын
@@AVIKO607 yea thats true, imported wild sulas will have a very high chance to die even with optimal water parameters. Best to find a local breeder not only to avoid the shipping process, but those shrimps are already acustomed to living in an aquarium and so will not die as fast.

How do you prevent the growth of 'blue-green algae' (cyanobacteria) when you grow 'green algae' (chlorophyta?) and diatoms?
@worldofaquariums55343 жыл бұрын
Hey, this is a very good question, which I figured out later on. Cyanobacteria will be caused by bad flow/ waste build up combined with higher nutrients. I find having lots of airflow and minimal substrate helps a lot. Also not to add too much nutrients generally during initial cycling
