7 Tips for RVing in BAD WEATHER ⛈🌪 💨!!!!

⭐️ About this Episode:
One of our concerns about RV Living was what to do when a Severe Storm comes! We have had a few occasions where we was really afraid that our RV would tip over from high winds. So with our little experience we thought we would share with you our 7 Tips for RVing in bad weather! Plus enjoy todays vlog as we encounter a storm while RVing in Texas with friends. We crammed 19 adults and kids in our RV while we waited out the storm!

More Severe Weather Tips: ☔️ Have helmet, closed toed shoes, blanket/coat ready for each family member with your safety kit. Prevention against blunt force trauma to the head can save your life. ☔️ Get a NOAA All Hazards Radio set up or proven GPS-based Weather Alerts App & make sure Location access is approved. You can change batteries in the radio when doing maintenance on fire/C0 alarms. ☔️ Use noaa.gov to find your location’s weather forecast directly from the National Weather Service. ☔️ Bring in your awning for severe winds or anchor it down for nonsevere weather. I have seen RVs flipped from sudden wind gusts. ☔️ Do NOT take shelter inside big-box stores like Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. If you must go there during severe weather, ask if they have a Tornado safe room usually in the bathrooms. ☔️ Do research to find local public Tornado shelters. ☔️ Do not try to outdrive a tornado as you can get stuck in traffic, etc. Look for sturdy building or gas station to take shelter inside. ☔️ Last case scenario is to lay down in a ditch that is not Flooding and cover your head. ☔️ Never take shelter or block traffic in underpass. Emergency vehicles need to get through and the underpass will act as a wind tunnel. ☔️ Charge your mobile devices before severe weather happens in your area. We had a crazy, crazy winter storm. 8 trees fell on our house and one crushed our living room. One also fell on our class A and I kid you not, it poked a tiny hole versus crushing it. We ended up in our RV for two weeks and it was the safest place to be. Plus we had power when it took weeks to get everyone back up.

I have to say I just love hearing your sweet wife talk she reminds me of a sweet lady I worked with and became close to when she found out she was having her first son who looks a lot like Gabriel! I was in my 20’s and she and her husband were in they mid to later 30’s and a sweet couple! She was a Hygenist and I was a dental assistant. To this day I hope to see her again someday. They were a beautiful family.

I recently watched one of your videos where your jacks sunk. Remember, in storms, your soil conditions can change so you need to be prepared for that too. The low end of soil load bearing capability (something you can drive on) can give as little as 14 or 15 pounds per square inch of load bearing capacity. 26000 pounds divide 4 jacks, you need 24” x 24” mats to lay down to help distribute that load. If you laminated 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood together, that will most likely get you the load distribution you need. Plus, you can do that with only one sheet 😃 Safe travels

What helps is to have a family training session on what to do in the event of a severe storm. Exit strategy safety training cover all possibilities of what to do for family safety. Take care and be safe.

When I was in high school we went camping for a month and traveled and slept in tents, we were in Craig CO and a storm blew in and it would was blowing so hard it sucked in the walls of our tents and snapped them back out... it was bad. But we all survived and still camp in tents...lol

My wife went thru a tornado last year in Arkansas while I was at work. Corp park was hit very hard, lots of trees down and several on campers. Everyone rode it out in the shower building, was designated as a shelter. Never want to do that again!!!. You can chase all the storms you want. Good tips y’all shared, be safe and God Bless.

Thanks for making this video. Lots of people dont think about stuff like this until it happens to them. The old scouting motto ,, BE PREPARED. Every member of your family needs to know where they will join up just in case you get separated. It maybe a good idea because of your little ones to have rope of some sort to climb out those windows . In our 50+ years of RVing we have encountered several storms. We had to leave our camper and gather in the earth-contact restrooms because of a tornado in Carthage Mo. area, and I'm claustrophobic. The worst was when we were tent camping. Actually felt the tent lifting with us in it. The key is knowing where to go. I have a weather radio.

Weather can get pretty scary in an RV. We had a few tornado warnings in Texas.

Storms are very scary. And actually a Walmart parking lot might not be the safest unless they have protective room in the store, in Joplins tornado sadly it and the Home Depot was blow sway and several were killed, but Hone Depot now has built a strong area in the new building that will fit several. Yeah I remember the Joplin tornado and seeing how badly the big box stores was destroyed. That tornado was so big I’m not sure anything could have remained standing.

Only 15 minutes away from us over here in Clifton. Wish I could have ran into y’all and meet y’all! Steele Creek Park is one of our go to spots for local camping and fishing. McCown Valley is my most favorite on Whitney. If you ever are back down around this area, and ever need any help with any trouble(Jack of all trades here), or just board, I have a family of 5 that love watching y’alls videos and would love to share s’mores around the campfire. I will bring the Treats as long as you got the fire. I hope y’all don’t leave KZbin.😢 I need to look up what this other thing is all about that Laine shared about yesterday.

Day 1. We were suppose to head out, but a storm came in blowing so hard, we thought the rv was going to flip. So, we drug mattresses into our empty house we sold. After that we stood looking out the window watching our heavy old fence wooden panels cartwheel down the street slamming into cars. When the wind is in the 70s, there ain't a thing you can do about it. In the first 8 months of traveling, we were in 7 places that had tornadoes touch down. We are from tornado alley, so it is normal for us in a house. The rocking rv was something to adjust to though. Lol

I'm thinking the diesel pusher RV you have is probably pretty safe compared to fifth wheels, or travel trailers. One of the best things you can do in a pusher is drop the suspension as low as you can to keep air from getting underneath. Plus the weight of the unit itself is pretty hard to tip over. When you see popcorn type clouds, like you posted in the video usually zome are east of those clouds will be hit hard with a storm, and possibly a tornado. Make sure you have a copy of your insurance information, legal documents, and cash with you. Insurance for taking care if damage, legal documents (RV totally destroyed), and cash because ATMs may not be available.

There are several places on the lake that is free camping. Get the Campendium app or go to their online site and you can search for free camping in this area and it will show you everything with pics and reviews!
