In may this year we will be cruising for 2 weeks and we will take 4 suitcases with us. Don't worry, we live one hour from the harbour and our son in law is driving us there. I love, love, love to wear formal clothes and they take quite a lot of space. The suitcases will fit under the bed in the cabin so no problem there. In september this year we will fly to Greece for a week with 1 suitcase each and 1 handbag. The handbag fits on the big (easy to move) suitcase when we go by train to the airport. My tip would be, pack essentials in your handbag (like medication and passport) and pack half of your clothes and half of your partners clothes in the bigger suitcase. If one of the suitcases gets lost, you still both will have clothes.

Thanks for the good comments and suggestions. I agree that there are many times when more luggage is a positive option. For us, every trip to Europe involves several plane flights. And even if it involves a cruise, we always add a land portion to take advantage of the fact we have already paid the airfare. So it has to be just the right conditions for us to take more. Splitting up clothes is a good suggestion.

Because i fly out of a regional airport and the planes are small, any carry on has to be gate checked, but you can keepmyour personal item., Not everyone lives near a major airport with large planes. But once we do get to a major airport then we get to use the carry on. Being adaptable is the most important aspect for a successful trip.

Good advice. We just packed 4 people in one large checked back for a Spirit flight--but as you mentioned, dealing with the line in the airport was awful and there were people cutting in line and threatening us. Packing light is best. I may look into a two wheel rolling duffel that *slightly* cheats on the size, figuring that if it's softsided and exceeds the 14 or 9", just a bit, that could be ok (it would still fit in an overhead just fine). We just went to Colombia, where there is very volatile weather. I hate having wet feet. No one else in my family minds. Wife found these really cheap, lightweight black rain booties on timu, made out of black baloon material. Kind of a hassle to put on the shoes, but they do a nice job (I think they develop really small holes after like 2-3 wearings, but still work pretty well and they're really inexpensive). She also found very inexpensive and lightweight umbrellas on there--not the quality of the regular ones, but they're smaller and maybe 1/3 or 1/4 as heavy. We've gotten multiple uses out of those. But for avoiding the nightmare lines, travelling light is indeed a good idea, and for avoiding potential bodily harm from fellow inmates flying on the budget airlines...

Thanks for the good comments and suggestions. I love the "fellow inmates" reference. That is exactly what it feels like!

We are big fans. As I said in the video, we have used these for 10 years and they are still in great shape. Let us know what you think.

Can your wife show us how she packs light?

We'll put that on the calendar for a future video.

I am woman. My last trip was 30 days overseas from December to January with one carryon and one backpack. This is doable.
