Swahili has many speakers over a large area, while west African languages have a smaller range of usage. I think all diasporans should learn at least one west African language imho, but learning Swahili should be essential as well for returning back home. (P.S. some AAs object to ‘Black American’ because it omits African heritage or lineage...but it is no great matter coming from continental Africans...we know it’s not meant to be an insult and some of us even use the term.)
