Great radio! U can make a foot switch to turn tx on/off. 73!

Thx. A foot switch is unnecessary given the automatic vox circuit switching described later in the video.

Well done Peter, coincidentally I have been getting started on WSJT-X in lockdown. Your Y cable 'interface' has been invaluable with my FT817. Not yet made any contacts but I hope to solve that day with a sked across town. Stay safe!

Peter, you have done it again, congrats , only i got burnt out on ft-8 , still like the ole CW manual mode ! I made about 200/ 300 qso,s on 40m, felt like the computer did all the work ! HI , Thanks again, 73, 72, Jerry K9UT

Agree about FT8. You need to investigate JS8 which is far more personal. If you build a rig the personal involvment in the contacts made is huge.

I put around 20W out on FT8 yet only my neighbor was able to hear me. Of course that was on 10m..

Can you share the schematic if you are able to make one from the video, I am great at following instructions but I am not at the level of just creating the schematic from the video, I am still not able to identify all components just from watching.

@@eamoralesl Sorry, no time at the moment as busy. Hand-drawing schematics from books and videos important skill you need to learn. Draw using the big schematic, filling in the details with the smaller schematics.

That was interesting Peter, easy to build as well. How hard is it to filter out one of the sidebands?
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 4 жыл бұрын
You can with audio and RF phase shifting. Adjustment can be fiddly but it's very satisfying. See my phasing SSB page. home.alphalink.com.au/~parkerp/projects/projssbphasing.htm

Oh no... Peter... not you too! It seems like ever since I posted my rant.. well, not a rant.. a heart-broken 'giving up of my hobby'... called 'FT-anything sucks and is ruining ham radio for CW ops!'... you've now started doing a lot more digital mode experimenting. See, I'm an old man (61. lol) and if it doesn't have a mic and if I cant 'talk' by crossing two wires to act as a switch to send CW, it's not ham radio to me. Know what? Digital mode ham radio really does suck and really is ruining ham radio for cw ops. But your vids are helping save us old farts! 73
@vk3ye

Yes it's very sad. I'm sure the spark ops haven't forgiven the new fangled CW ops for what they did 100 years ago. In all aspects of the arts and sciences civilisation tends to peak in one's childhood and it's all downhill and degeneracy from there!

@@vk3ye Yes! Yes! You, Sir, truly get it. lol. Well said and true. Thank you for all your amazing work and play and willingness to share. Ham radio is lucky to have you. Even if, you know, you're now taking part in the destruction to cw via anything and all things digital. Guess that's gotta include watches, speedometers in cars, etc. Haha. 73 OM :)

Excellent stuff, Peter! Would that enclosure be from an old parallel printer switch box, by any chance? :-) I have one here waiting for a project. One small detail - in the schematic you drew, the VOX circuit’s second transistor driving the relay has no bias, it’s floating with just a capacitor feeding it from the previous stage! I’m guessing this isn’t right?
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's a switch box. Yes the circuit is right. I thought it was odd but it worked. You can check it against the Talking Electronics link.
