Oh I can totally see that being EXACTLY what happened (though considering Pokemon..... I think they may be underestimating kids and how absolutely obsessed they can get lmao). And I mean.... even kids that did reach that ending will probably gather some of what's up but a lot of it is gonna go over their heads. Very common for children's media (especially when it's main target demographic is children but the devs know they also have a major following from adult fans as well) to include little things for older fans, fans revisiting for nostalgia when older, and parents, so I think you're exactly right.

Never forget the alternate ending in Command where Fox lost almost everyone in his team to Star Wolf, became a binge-eater and alcoholic, and later decided to join F-Zero along with Falco. Sad and bizarre at the same time.

It's so weird that the default ending for Command is Fox getting absolutely cucked by Panther Caruso. As the DEFAULT ending, and that you have to go through it again in order to get the ending where she sticks with him to have a kid. Especially because there's multiple endings where she leaves Fox for one reason or another.

The thing about Drawn To Life 2's ending is that the entire ending of Mike's coma is actually set up a lot beforehand. In the first game, Mike is the ONLY human present in the entire world, and still is within the 2nd game. A lot of the characters in the Raposa Village are people that would closely be related to the incident, A Doctor, Police Officer, Mari and Jowee are the dolls they had (likely from the carnival they went to) Heather is a reflection of his sister, who had half of her face injured during the incident, and Wilfre (and the shadows) likely are a representation of loss, or death. When you really look back at all the pieces, the game's ending starts to come together and make a lot of sense. Especially when you take into account the beginning of the 2nd game, asking you do describe a certain scene (that being the accident), and some of the ending bits of the game, which requires you to wake up mike, in the way of putting out the flame, which takes that beginning section back up before heading to the credits to explain what happened that day. The falling from a tree ending sucks because it completely throws all this out the window, and throws all of the game's stuff that points to an accident in the dumps. It makes everything that happened in Mike's dream seem really strangely high steaks for uh... just being knocked out for a bit rather than IN A COMA AND POSSIBLY COULD DIE

The darker ending to Drawn to Life had to be changed in order for them to keep the lower age rating. A third game in the Drawn to Life series called "Two Realms" was actually released last year which confirms that the darker of the two is the canon ending. The developers also mentioned that their parents' death was also meant to be uncertain.

Custom Robo is a gem. You can even give away a very important item halfway through the game, and then you need to awkwardly run across the entire map to get it back near the end of the playthrough.

Huge Drawn To Life fan here! The alternate ending was not added in a patch, contrary popular belief. All copies of Drawn To Life: The Next Chapter have the original, very sad ending in which Heather and Mike's parents are killed in a car accident, and Mike is in a coma. The much more tame ending is only found in a collection version of the game, which is a DTL 1 and 2 bundle. This, at least, is what I've learned from the DTL fan Discord.

Whenever someone brings up Drawn to Life I get extremely happy. They ruined the whole point and feeling of the second game’s ending by toning down the violence in the rerelease. It was prolly the first game that made me cry, along with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, i was 11-12 and had severe unmedicated depression so those endings hit me like a ton of bricks 🙃

Thank you very much for naming each game before going into the endings, most 'top x' lists are just like "And that's when it's revealed that Samus was a woman the whole time wHHOOOAAAAAAHHHHH", or put in the bare minimum effort by showing all the games they're gonna spoil at once at the start of the video without putting like time stamps or anything. So, I really appreciate your method. I still gotta play Moon so it would have sucked to see it spoiled. NieR Automata is the frickin master of these. Dying in specific ways gives you whole ass endings, same with killing off story-important characters, going out of bounds in some places, or picking the wrong dialogue option. You can get an ending in the first couple seconds of gameplay by dying in the overhead SHMUP section the game opens with.

In Super Paper Mario at the beginning they ask if you will help. If you say no enough times the world gets engulfed in darkness. In The Secret of Monkey Island at any time if you press ctrl-w it brings up a text that asks you if you want to win. If you press y then it congratulates you on winning gives you all the points (note points aren't a thing in Monkey Island) and rolls the credits.

OMG I remember that Custom Robo ending! I was (and still am) the kind of kid who would always select the "No" option in games just to see what would happen and this was the first time that actually gave me a unique result! I kept thinking "Oh wow, they're actually giving me an option to say no and giving a lot of unique dialogue that doesn't just loop endlessly. Sure are stretching it out but it feels realistic." the alternate ending to "we happy few" is pretty funny. at the very beginning, you got to choose if you wanna take the pill or discover further what happened to your brother... well, if you choose to take the pill, the game's over, that's the alternate ending. the other option is just the whole entire game

Holy shit I remember seeing that Drawn to Life ending when I was a kid. My mom bought it used for my DS. It confused me so much because I happened to name my character Mike, giving that ending a completely different mindfuck for me.

How about Disgaea 2’s bad ending, which is super hard to get. It was censored in the English dub but you can hear the removed sounds by switching to JP voices at the last second. Adell EATS HIS YOUNG SIBLINGS. They’re asking what’s wrong with him as he approaches them and then the screen goes black and you hear them screaming and BONES CRUNCHING and then it all stops. The sounds removed were after the screen went black.

Drawn to Life offers a choice as to What Mike remembers. If he chooses "It was a dark and stormy night" this nets him darkest ending.

Yes. Because Monster Rancher was never intended to be "for kids" - in Japan, it was just a JRPG-Sim - for anyone. One of the monsters, before it was localized, is LITERALLY a SUCCUBUS. Monster Rancher only changed to catering towards kids later on in order to challenge Pokemon (and they failed... they really should've never tried competing in that field).
