I know I'm late to comment, but this is my third time watching the video. It is just so therapeutic for my soul. I love your idea of creating a little friction to make spending a little more complicated. Implementing this idea, I now only carry cash for gas and lunch and leave my cards to avoid overspending.

Only started following today, your backpack story triggered me. Recently I was tempted to replace my Hedgren backpack that saw me through the last years of secondary school, 5 years of higher education, has been carrying way too many RPG books since and served as my carry-on luggage. I turned 42 and decided to hold on to old faithful for a while longer

I really needed to hear this one. Thank you. I have been doing the leave things in my cart for a while, or on a wish list with amazon. It's shocking how much less I buy. I take time to consider why I want it and do I really need it. Then buy. Good reminder on wabi sabi. As well just using what you have. Do I need the new macbook air 15" well.... no... my m1 air 13" does what I need. So hard to not grab shiny new.

Problem is I don’t have any salami. Will honey roast ham do? Agree totally with the wish list / basket hack. I’ve been doing that for a while, depending on what it is I usually leave it a few days to a few months. Another thing I do is keep logged out of Amazon and have to put the password in each time I want to buy something. Extra barriers. That back pack is a beast, after seeing how well yours stands up to life I might get one myself. That park with the lake is amazing, is that near where you live? Agree with you with the computer thing, I still run a years old Mac mini. I’m in the mindset that I’ll replace it when it breaks. Until then I’m not even looking for one. Great video again mate!

One of the biggest ways I save money while maximising out of the house entertainment is a cinema pass. Pay £15/month, watch any movie I want - with cost of movies nowadays if you see one movie a month you break even, see two a month and you’ve saved £15. In June alone there’s 4 movies i would be seeing in cinemas regardless of the pass so it’s saving me £45 this month not including other movies I may see
@NicholasGarofola Жыл бұрын
I actually think that’s a great idea, and makes sense if you’re already going to the movies for entertainment

True sometimes the experience of anticipation of things has a greater dopamine producing effect, than the actual thing or event. I appreciate the message and I have trouble with impulse buying. However, wouldn't frugal living mean not buying that Mac or Ember coffee mug and instead using a workhorse HP and a regular ceramic coffee cup? Wouldn't buying cheap from the beginning obviate the need to save money? I am new to this type of video, and I am genuinely asking.
@Konushku11 ай бұрын
If you buy something cheaper but don’t enjoy using it or always find it dissatisfactory, you end up wasting your own money and time. It’s better to buy a good one that you’ll be satisfied with for a long time and avoid the temptation of buying a new one every time a new version comes out.

You bring up many good points Nicholas of which I've adhered to over the years. It's put me where I am today, living frugal yet comfortable lifestyle. I do have that will power as I drive by McDonalds after the gym and think of nice their coffee be this morning but then I think, mine is ready at home, just hit the start button (end of story). The word 'impulse' is the key word here, don't let it control you. Leave items in your cart for awhile. If it's meant to be it will happen and with a bargain.

Very common and a topic of pride in Indian and mostly South Asian countries to boast about how long one made their items to last. A 20 year old fridge was a pride thing until 2 years ago and me and my family dealt with the issues of using an old fridge because of that pride... Or how the amount of years you use your phone is a thing of pride... How much discount you can get is also a thing of pride. My 5 year old Lenovo, has a (admittedly bad) 2gb graphics card and an i5, which I got for around 400 dollars then.
