I'm about to buy one of these this week. Dual exhaust, 93,000 miles on it. Digital interior & in crisp condition. Lady drove to & from the grocery for 21 years.... I'm gonna do a 2021 retro upgrade with some Rose gold finishes. I'll post a video if it comes out the way I see it in my brain...lol

I use Amsoil wherever possible. It's an amazing product. Run 80w90 in the diff, flushed the whole tranny and it's full of fresh Amsoil atf and I run it in the motor too. I can easily get over 30 MPG as long as I keep it around 65 mph.

Years ago,my father had a 1994 Lincoln Towncar, and it always got at least 27 mph on the highway. I had a Mercury Grand Marquis of approximately the same vintage with the same engine and chassis, but it struggled to get even 17 to 18 mph on the same highways. My father loved to smoke cigars while driving, and we couldn't get rid of that smell after he died, so we didn't keep it. Would love to have it now.

I have a 1988 Chev Silverado 1/2 ton extended cab with a long box and canopy. I have a large K&N air filter, Air Raid Riser on my throttle body, Headers, Magna Flo muffler, removed catalytic converter and removed the air pump that pumps air into the exhaust system. The tire air pressure is 35 psi. I am very conservative in my driving habits and can run 90% highway mileage. I have a 125-liter gas tank. On a full tank, I have exceeded 1000km and filled up 113 liters after exceeding 1000km. I think my old truck is great on gas and that's a big truck. General principles have been "air easy in, air easy out and very conservative driving habit. Many vehicles stock have restrained airflow in and restricted out.

Make sure your belt tensioner works and is not just pushing all the way out. Next get the silencer out of your intake. Where your intake pokes in the fender , cut it off . Really make sure when its put together you cant see the cut. This will give your engine a third more air. Free flow muffle too. I get 22mph from my 95 k1500 extended cab hot coil and open up your gap .003 from factory. This only works with a hotter coil msd accel DUI .
@TheChibitodd
@TheChibitodd 4 жыл бұрын
Yo you forgot gen maintenance. Change the transmission fluid! Tire pressure is hard to get right. You should have full tire contact. Hotrod did an article on this in the late 90s. Lots of small burn outs and check tire contact. My 1971 nova likes 39 psi for full contact with thick side wall tires.

If you start using premium on an older engine, the highway mpg will increase by 2 mpg or more. The carbon build up in the combustion chambers slightly increases the compression ration and the electronic fuel controls automatically adjust to advance the timing to get more power out of the better gas and the slightly increased compression ration in each cylinder. My 2010 Expedition 2WD with the 5.4 3 valve gets 19.7 mpg at 75 on the Interstate with premium fuel. Reset your mpg readout after you get to cruising speed and see what you get.

Also, please do note that topping off the tank when refueling can also risk damage to the charcoal filter canister of the evaporative emissions system, as it could risk liquid gasoline reaching the charcoal media. When that happens, the liquid gasoline can damage it, reducing or even eliminating its ability to filter gas vapor as designed. It's a costly job to fix such a problem and it's preventable by refraining from topping off.
@Omegadoomship
@Omegadoomship Жыл бұрын
Correct. Topping off the gas could potentially damage the EVAP system and throw check engine codes. When the gas pump handle goes “click”, you are done filling your car with gas. Put the nozzle back on the pump and drive away.

I've never noticed any noticeable effect on fuel economy by running the AC. If the compressor is in proper working order, it shouldn't produce much drag on the engine.

I have a 2010 CVPI it gets 15 city 25 highway. I think your grand marquis would get 2mpg or so more if you put a full dual exhaust on it. Grand marquis already have a manifold and 2 cats for each one of the banks, so all you need is an extra muffler and pipe and it’s ready to go. Definitely breathes better and even speeds it up a bit.

Upgrading the air intake and exhaust pipes can help with fuel economy. Which means, more airflow equals higher fuel economy.

@ jon rheaume-- That's interesting that your 1999 Lincoln Town Car requires 91+ premium gas. On the fuel door of my 2002 Town Car, it says to use regular 87 octane gas, and both of our Town Cars are the same generation. These days, premium gas can be up to a dollar more per gallon than regular gas. Many years ago, I had a 1983 Lincoln Mark VI that required premium gas, and I always hated to pay more for premium gas.
@changeyourpassword
@changeyourpassword 10 ай бұрын
@JonRheaume2282 My '99 Lincoln Town Car Executive also says to use 91+. In my experience, if you can find 93 for little to no extra cost, do that because I get about half a mile a gallon extra. I get about 12.5 in the city and 23 on the highway at ~58mph or 21 at ~65mph on 93 fuel. If you're in a particularly big pinch on money, 89 works, but you're looking at gas mileage closer to 10/19 if you use it. I don't even consider 87 because it pushes the gas mileage down well below 10 in the city.

Don't drive with a heavy foot. Ease on gas and ease off and on brakes. I see so many drive like at a drag strip. It's proven that ppl can pass all tge cars they want, they not gonna get there any sooner. Alot of ppl who live in hilly country setting drive in OD. I use 3rd or just drive. Keeps trans from shifting so much up to OD then down then up etc. And alot back out and while moving back shift into drive etc. That's hard on all the parts that Spon 1 way then harshly the other. I've seen alot over 3 decades. Ppl drive and have no brake pads at all. Have 10 plugs on a sidewall. Use 10w30 for brake fluid, PS fluid etc. It's in manual. Read it. I'd hope with smart devices ppl get smart. Well I'm still waiting.

@@Reverie1901 I work on them every day. I don't eat or have a home if I dont. I try to help my customers oit as much as I can. Ppl assume cause we say I'd suggest replacing whatever part it's for $$. No its cause if I tell u let's fix a small issue, pay a small price now or let it go and cost alot more later. And I'd make more $$ by letting them drive their car further into the scrap pile. I like to see ppl happy. Fix now cheap, fix later more. I'd rather spend a lil now than ALOT later. Especially with brakes. U let them go now u need rotors also. So urr brake job went from 100 to 300 plus.

AC doesn’t make any difference. It used to back in the day but not anymore. Also dirty air filters doesn’t make a difference anymore. Back in the day of carburetors it did but when is the last time anyone saw a carburetor. The cars with FI are ran by computers that constantly keep the air/fuel mix the same. Fuel tanks are also stored underground which keeps the fuel temp more consistent so don’t bother getting up early to go get gas.
@keithbassett4988
@keithbassett4988 2 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ about statement of not changing out dirty/clogged air filters. While it is true that fuel injected engines are monitored by computer and adjust fuel/airflow to compensate for lack of fresh air, they will only allow so much adjustment within programmed parameters. If you continue to operate vehicle with clogged filter it will not only make it harder to start....eventually it will affect the fuel mileage and possibly your idle. Sometimes, depending on the manufacturer it could cause your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT to illuminate. Change your dirty air filters!
@camposvazquez
@camposvazquez 2 жыл бұрын
Wrong... Run an obd scanner and check the fuel trims... Clean filter an non AC will increase mpg... I am a hyper miler and consistently achieve 10% - 18% over EPA ratings for said vehicles
