Thought of some more: You've changed as played by Dexter gordon on "Doin alright" or Lush Life from the Coltrane record
@TimCollinsVibes6 жыл бұрын
I love that Coltrane/Hartman record - they also to 'My One And Only Love'.. There's a Dexter recording of a tune called 'I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry' which is also great.

I've been working on In a Sentimental Mood and I've just got to say thank you for yet another perfectly timed and topical video!

Great tune! Do you know the alternate changes for the last A section? B- flat 6, Bb dim, F over A, Ab dim, G minor?
@alexjackson77466 жыл бұрын
I did not know those changes, no. Would you mind pointing me to a recording with progression? Thanks! Edit 1: a recording with *that* progression Edit 2: Now that you pointed it out to me I'm hearing it a ton; thanks so much!

I'll have to look- I learned the progression either from friends or a teacher- can't remember anymore. I'll get back to you on that.

Found one - Sarah Vaughan from the album 'After Hours' (with Mundell Lowe, guitar - George Duvivier, bass). That whole record is great too.

Great Video again, you made me laugh quite often and i also learned some things, what more to say ;) My favourite Ballads are: Stairway to the Stars, Chelsea Bridge, You don't know what love is, In a sentimental mood, Polka dots and moonbeams, and of course round midnight.

Thanks! I forgot about 'Stairway To The Stars' - that's on Bags N Trane isn't it? I always forget about 'You Don't Know What Love Is' as a ballad, because in past years I've always played it in a funky style.. Polkadots and Moonbeams for some reason is a tune that I just don't like as much as the others - I think maybe because the melody is very major scale-ish.. I like the weird ballads like Come Sunday.. Another great Monk besides Round Midnight is Ask Me Now

Yeah, it's on Bags n Trane and Bags meets Wes, whereas I prefer the Bags meets Wes Version, it's a little more "balladesk" and Milt Jackson playin the melody and soloing is a masterpiece on its own... didn't know "ask me now yet", will check it out!

I also once transcribed Bobby playing 'Chan's Song' from the album Skyline - just the way he plays the melody is fantastic.

Great!! Could you put that on your homepage for purchasing? Thanks man, keep your great work up, i really appreciate this little community here! ;) Schönen Tag noch!

I never actually wrote it out - plus there are copyright issues with me selling a transcription of someone else's music... that's why I only sell my own. The other thing I remember about the Bobby transcription (it was 15 years ago BTW) is that it would be really difficult to write out because his rhythmic phrasing was so special.
