Memorable vintage pictures in your video. I lived in Tulare all my life before retiring to Idaho ten years ago. I went to school with Mike Toledo and his sister in that picture with Bob Mathias. Their father was a war hero in WWII. His contributions to the Tulare Historical Society fill most of the same museum where Bob Mathias's Olympic gold medals and collectibles are on display. This video brings good memories. I coach in my spare time and I'll show it to the kids.

My friend told me about this video. I vaulted one season under coach Bob Smith in the 60s. He once mentioned to me that he was one of the first fiberglass vaulters. After all the years, it is news to me now that I was coached by the FIRST fiberglass pole vaulter. Awesome video!

Bob Smith was as well, and extremely influential at the time. Great looking up the history it all.

Fantastic brother! Celebrating Mr. Mathias and his SkyPole. Browning later advanced the pole into history followed by the World Famous Black CataPole. Appreciate your attention to our fantastic sport. Blessings!

Bob had a church camp up in Dunlop, CA... I did some service for them during the summer and I am pole vaulter as well and it was shocked that this camp I do service for belonged to Bob Mathias and his family still owns it... theres some old storage structures up there from when he used to train post athletic career... I am dying to see if they will let me look in there and see what pieces of Bob's history are in there!
