www.DemocracyNow.org - The "Occupy Wall Street" protests in the financial district took a dramatic turn on Saturday when protesters tried to march across the Brooklyn Bridge. When police arrested 700 of the demonstrators, the event quickly turned into one of the largest arrests of non-violent protesters in recent history. Some protesters claim police lured them onto oncoming traffic on the bridge's roadway; others said they did not hear instructions from police telling them to use the pedestrian walkway. Meanwhile, similar "Occupation" protests have spread to other cities, including Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, where hundreds of protesters are now camped out in front of City Hall. We host a roundtable discussion with Marisa Holmes, an organizer with the main organizing group of Occupy Wall Street, called the General Assembly, Marina Sitrin, an attorney who is part of Occupy Wall Street's legal working group, and Laurie Penny, a writer and journalist who reported on protests in London earlier this summer

We need a MILLION people in the streets of NY. 20.000 cops can't stop that many people. Do not riot, do not do harm. Just be there in massive numbers and don't leave. If I didn't live on the other side of the Atlantic, I would join you. The world is completely in the hands of the corporations. We have the means, technology, but not the will to create a utopian society

Why isn't this channel bigger than CNN yet!? Seriously, I caught onto this channel back in 2003 and knew that this was the best answer to CNN and Fox.

@shanhitson Dude, there are no honest men in politics. EVERY single one of those people are getting money from lobyists. Corporations rule our world. Do not be naive.

Laurie Penny is right, "It's a form of collective punishment designed tell people they can't come out into the streets, they can't come out and dissent. In an age where the people in power don't have much else to offer people, they don't' have any other reasons to tell them NOT come out and dissent"

Non-violent protesters cited for disorderly conduct. How does one explain this leap of logic? So is the message here "Protest is disorderly conduct."?

@crass770 And then the police and military will have to decide if they support the people, or orders by the elite.

@crass770 Exactly. Tunisia and Egypt overthrew their governments peacefully. Libya was prevented from doing the same, so they overthrew their government with bloodshed.

Its quaint, they can pre purchase violence and civil rights abuses. Just get an insurance policy, and go to town. Very sad, this is what its come to.

@ecwaufisxtreme The protest is not an epic fail at all. Thousands of people are coming together with the same ideas and for a like cause. I dont see how people can say they have no cause or demands because it seems pretty clear to me. The reason its not a failure is because its only been going on for 2 weeks now and there are hundreds of videos being uploaded and the cause is getting some attention from the media, and now sweeping across the country like a fire, you can never kill an idea.

Saying "Hey, illegals aren't complaining!" to criticize the jobless who are willing to work is absolute "horseshit," that's what I'm saying. On a relatively unrelated note: The basic quality of life promised to proper US citizens is definitely being diminished, IMO probably because oursourcing has pretty much killed basic jobs such as manufacturing, etc.

And they aren't complaining about it like a middle class white kid. They aren't whining about how they can't buy the new iphone. I do agree, the workforce they commonly populate is getting more 'gray' as we speak. But they do their work and don't complain.

@shanhitson There is an implicit code by which we in the West live-a code that demands that we uplift each other, and that we do it globally. It's a thoroughly secular call to be messianic. It's an economic call, a call to save thy neighbor.

@shanhitson Capitalism offers more things to believe in than any system that has ever come before. Nearly every faith, from Christianity and Buddhism to Islam and Marxism, promises to raise the poor and the oppressed. But only capitalism delivers what these ideologies and religions profess. Capitalism lifts the poor and helps them live their dreams.
