The Countess has such a delightfully proper way of explaining the history of this charming old "parish church" which is now part of the Mapperton estate. It is wonderful they are able to preserve all the structures and grounds. The history is fascinating.

Much love to the Countess for offering us this tour! I really enjoy her knowledge and enthusiasm. As a vicar, I am obsessed with the idea of having a house attached to an actual church--not just a domestic chapel--and I can see why the long-term vicar created the passage. There would be a good liturgical drama to just opening the door and arriving fully vested and ready to take the service.

It's so wonderful to get all of these stories on video because sometimes while telling one story of Mapperton another one arises that probably hasn't been told before or at least hasn't been recorded. I could listen to the Countess all day.

Wonderful history! So enjoy her spirit! And so true. When I was a young mother of 3 with a hectic career. Children in all types of activities. I'd often catch myself as my mind wondered during the sermon. I'd be organizing the upcoming weeks activities that needed to be squished in while maintaining a job, house and marriage lol. Seemed we'd always be running a relay race through the week. And sitting in church just filled me with inner peace and clarity. I'm sure it was the Lord organizing my schedule. Always making time for God. As I know I am nothing without him.

Videos like this remind me of how important these historic estates, buildings and landmarks are. It would be awful if the situation in Ukraine were to spill over into other parts of Europe and we would lose some of these precious historic landmarks - let alone the loss to human life that would likely occur. Thank you for sharing this important piece of England's history - and the oh so interesting stories of days gone by Your Excellency!

How nice to have such a cultured and articulate lady show us around the is lovely little church. Her sympathy with the old religion is heartwaming. I wish more people knew about The Ordinariate in England. I remember lying in bed in our house in Wiltshire and hearing The dreaded Death Watch Beetles...somewhere in the house ! They are certainly alarming, especially as one counts the pennies that their damage is going to cost.

Interesting discussion of the "old religion". I have discovered "Popish recusants" in my own pedigree, which has really complicated my genealogy studies, especially of those who served very closely both the Crown and the Church. I could listen to the Countess for hours!

This was absolutely delightful. When I thought of a question almost the next thing she said answered it. It's so lovely to think that it is still is use although maybe not as much as in the past. Was especially interested on the history of the change from Catholic to Protestant. Can't you just imagine walking into the chapel after the fumigators were thru and wading thru dead beetles. What a picture. Thank you so much.

I so enjoyed the the Countess' tour of All Saints, she includes small details not only about the Church but about the people who have worshiped and ministered there over the centuries. While she talked on the different services that are still held there, it made me sort of wish I could sit in one of the pews and reflect and ponder on "things", alas Mapperton is a long way from Texas though.

The Countess has such a wealth of knowledge, and it's a thorough treat to hear her bring the history of the church to life. I am so relieved to see that the wooden pews were retained. I'm not sure about Grade I Listed churches but, here in London, we have so many Grade II churches that have had their historic pews removed in recent years, only to be replaced with hideous plastic chairs...to the utter detriment of the historic integrity of the internal space. One always assumes that fixtures such as pews are intrinsic to the protected fabric, but it appears there is a loophole in historic building consent. On a less contentious issue, I am a huge fan of JS Bach, and to hear the Cellos Suites played in that incredible space, and by such an accomplished musician, must have been so completely joyful!

I could listen to the countess talk forever! So soothing, and she has so much knowledge to share of the history of Mappleton. I had to take this computer into my husband for him to hear about it. His genealogy on his mother's side goes back to the Royal family, but it does not do any good to us of course, but just nice to know. lol It is interesting though. The family left and moved to the U.S, and that is history. Learned so much and could have enjoyed hearing much more from the countess herself! Our heart is in all the older structures and the lovely area. Wish we were younger and could have actually moved there and started over. Then could fix up a larger place and do all that was needed. The Church is a place. I would spend so much time am sure at the church even if alone. ( well must work and do things too of course, but what time I could I would be there anyway). It is hard probably to plant flowers as of the rock. But pots of flowers would be nice and would need to be watered so you would want to make a trip there at least every other day. It is just fine if you would plan to do it anyway! Mappertwon is special and so are you as a family! It is right that you area there at this time in history and all will be preserved for many, many years with many blessings upon it, am sure! Thank you for giving time to share it all with us!

Thanks to the Countess for this fascinating tour. I'm imagining the early worshipers and the Martins trying to get in. I hadn't known about the Dorset martyrs, including the one associated with this church. All part of the history. I am glad that the church still serves the parish, if intermittently for religious services and for performances. A place of refuge, indeed.
