Brandy and Monica and Aaliyah Mya reigned over Summer 1998 but this song and Lately by Divine were the soundtrack to my Fall semester in my senior year of high school right before Silly Ho and No Scrubs by TLC dominated the rest of that academic year. If I don't love 702 for nothing else, I love them for having the darkest sista in the front. There were & are a lot of dark lil' girls who need(ed) to see that. Hell. If I have to explain it, then you don't even need to concern yourself with it. Clearly you don't understand how underrepresented dark girls are in the media. That's a BIG accomplishment to see a dark girl at the forefront. The music business--- like show business--- has very lil' to do with the music, & more to do with image. It's typically light-skinned girls who are placed as the lead singers of a group--- whether they can actually sing or not.
