Rob... you are an inspiration to me. I have a lot of trains, and a lot of time, but not much experience, and seeing this video has given me a bit of a push towards designing and building a somewhat permanent layout. I will find your first video and start from there. Thank you, from your latest subscriber.

Addison Williams Jr Hi Addison, It will be easy to follow the series. It starts with 1B and continues to 71B. I am doing my utmost to upload a video every week on Fridays. I have covered just about every thing I have done to get to where I am now so there is plenty of meat and tips for you in the series. The B designates the second series. I had another layout before this one so stick to the B’s. Thank you, Rob

Those scooter riders used to drive me crazy back in the day, he'd be drunk or high haha, great progressive work on the roadway Rob, coming together great couple more trucks and or cars will be great, layout as always looks great, congrat's on getting 2K subscribers any wonder because Farland in my mind is a great channel and I always look forward to updates, keep'm rolling. . . . . Al

Hi Al, Yes, the scooter man was supposed to check the road before the big test, but he was showing off for one of the local girls and blamo. It takes a while to build one of these roads, but I think it will be fun when there are 2 or 3 vehicles running at the same time. Thank you for your continuing support. Rob

George Wyatt Hi George, Thank you for the kind words. I am better with the paint brush than the filler. I got it so thick in spots I was afraid the steering wouldn’t follow it. But it did. Once again, such kind words, thank you, Rob

Beautiful work Rob! It looks awesome so far! I’m definitely going to use one of those cutters next time. Well done and congrats on the 2000 plus subscribers too! Cheers, Dan
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, You didn't use the cutter? I thought you did. I guess that proves you do not need it. Thank you, Rob
@TheMisterdan016 жыл бұрын
Rob McCrain Hi Rob, no didn’t use one, still turned out ok, but on closer inspection you get much smoother roads when using the cutter, but I couldn’t get one at the time. The other problem is when the heat warps the boards the wire pops through the thin plaster some times, which means more repair. If the wires were in the grooves I think they would stay put in that type of situation. Was the paint that you used the Faller asphalt paint?
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, Oh dear, there were a couple of places where the wire would not stay down in the groove so I plastered over it. Hope it doesn't pop out. Yes I used the Faller paint that came in the kit. I did thin it considerable with painters acrylic Matt. It comes in a bottle for thinning paints. Plus a little water. I still have about half left. I bought the cutter on Amazon. At first I tried to get it from the nearest Faller dealer in Canada, but they we really slow so when I looked on Amazon, there it was and I grabbed it up. Thanks again, Rob
@sonysnapper6 жыл бұрын
Rob, I operate the Faller cars at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum where we have three separate roads. One thing you will need to add along the edges, particularly where there is a drop off, is some sort of a guard rail. These vehicles have a tendency to not always follow the wire and if one should go off the drop off to the floor .... Don't forget the inside as they can turn away from the brink and go across to the other side, buildings or scenery will usually block them What usually happens is the guide arm gets worn and/or out of alignment thus the wild driving.
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Edward Sargent Hi Edward, Great advice. I almost stopped by there yesterday when I was coming back from Caboose Hobbies. It would be wonderful if you would show me around what you’re doing there. Thank you, Rob

Does the Faller CarSystem DHL truck swerve automatically because something is in the way or did you just set up the magnetic wire to turn like that? BTW luv yo vids! Keep it up!
@FarlandHowe5 жыл бұрын
Swerving or turning or in fact, all movements relate to the embedded guide wire.

Huge congrats on the 2k subscribers 👍 A rim/trim around the layout? Is that the band of wood above the curtain? If it is I think it looks very smart. Also you did a great job on the installation of the Faller road; that truck runs smooth! Looks like it was a lot of work but it's so gonna be worth it once you've got it all bedded in with scenery.
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Hello 4468, Yes, I guess it would be a rim or trim section banding the layout. I am looking forward to having more than one Faller vehicle running. I built the road with clearance to pass. It was a bit of work and you have seen the steps needed. Thank you for watching and your comment, Rob

The Faller system is looking good & will sit very nicely in your layout... tell me - how do you like Cyberlink Power Director 16.0? How was the learning curve? Best regards... ;-) -Bob W, NH, USA
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, I tried a couple other video editing systems before I started with Power Director and I am satisfied with the software and am very comfortable using it. You will find you need to upgrade your software to the next version every so often, like 9 months or 12 months or so. It has most of the capabilities of software suites costing 10 times as much. If you've seen my videos, you have seen some of those capabilities in action. I tend to keep it simple, however. Learning curve is 2-3 weeks of occasional use, like 1 or 2 days per week. It takes me about 5 hours to edit my videos, but there are 100-200 edits in each one. Thank you, Rob

Congratulations on passing the 2000 sub mark, well deserved. I’m not sure whether you have mentioned it before in one of your videos but could you tell us why as someone living in America you have chosen to model British? Paul
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, The story of being interested in British Trains goes back to when I was 6 and living in London while my father was working there in 1953. We traveled as a family by train all over the UK the sight of those red buffer beams just never left me. The collective family memories of those times were burned deeply into me. That is why. I have told this story before, but I do not mind telling it again. My railway is an expression of my feelings about the UK not so much an exact model. Thank you, Rob

The faller system looks great but bloody hell its expensive
@FarlandHowe6 жыл бұрын
Less expensive than a fully detailed locomotive with sound. It is mostly work to build the road. It takes more work than money. $245 so far. It does not seem so bad considering the cost of the hobby in general It is possible to do it low cost of course and probably just as much fun. Thank you, Rob

Can you put this wire into foam then paste it and paint it?
