This is great! Being a collegiate thrower, I wish there were a lot more videos like this. Technique is vital in college (unless you're a brute who can bench 550+ and squat 700+), and watching these slow-mo vids of the rotation helps, in addition to the coaching.

Barnes used a spinner standing throw, its considerably lower than a gliders standing to full throw comparison. The equivalent for a glider would be a 20m standing throw, which 70foot gliders can do. C.J Hunter for example could standing throw 20m although he's a spinner he used a gliders standing throw.

If youre ridiculously big like Christian Cantwell sized, I'd stick with glide, but smaller guys usually have a better time spinning. Spin is going to be overall more productive, but glide will serve you just fine.

what exactly do you think "discus footing" looks like as opposed to shot footing?
@tough5hit
@tough5hit 14 жыл бұрын
@kcvcramer well yah no shit hes using the discus spin, they use it for both. and he did throw 71 feet when he was 19 thats no lie.

It seems to be easy, but it takes a lot of time to control this technique.....You have to practise a lot to gain.

@kcvcramer Your coach failed to tell you that almost every serious shot putter these days uses "discus footing" as you put it -- or "rotational shot put method" as it is officially called. The glide is old school, although you can still do well with it.

Guts, The Black Swordsman comparing yourself to other shot putters can only get you so far eventually you gonna have to modify the technique to where you are comfortable cause its impossible to copy another shot putters technique since everyone is different

Agreed, season has now passed, and I bombed provincials. I had a throw that would have won me gold. However, I lost balance and scratched. I need a lot more practice on execution.

Chad M Ive been working on the spin for 2.5 years. I haven't worked on it all 12 months, I wish I did. But I only practiced it when it came time for the season. I still have small things to work on, like driving off my left leg, and not being over rotational. Which causes my throws to go far right and out of bounds. :/

I don't think so, he throwed 2" more than ulf timermann, but its my belief that the thrower who puts consistenly is the best. ulf timermann has the most throws over 22m so in my mind he is the best ever. Not taking anything away from barnes WR but the numbers that ulf put up trumps barnes.

@kcvcramer Nobody cares to hear your bragging, stop trying to act like you know better than RANDY BARNES. He's kind of the greatest thrower to ever live. No big deal or anything, he just holds the world record and has one of the most effortless and efficient techniques EVER, as 70footer stated in the description.
