From Warp Films, Film4, BFI and STUDIOCANAL comes the critically acclaimed Berlin Festival hit '71, a nail-biting chase thriller about a hunted soldier fighting for survival.
A young British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.
'71 stars rising star Jack O'Connell (Starred Up, Skins), Paul Anderson, Richard Dormer, Sean Harris.

One of the best movies I've seen recently, and just to say "keep your mouth closed if you didn't watch the entire movie" because it's absolutly not defending the british side ! This is a really impressiv movie showing all the horror and complexity of the war, no good ones, no mean ones. So to say, they're good people and bad people on each side now, if you're still not convinced, I really advise you to watch it.

Great film about the troubles in Ireland. It's definitely one of my best films. Irish people are class. From a Scotsman here.

To all the people already complaining about how it focuses on the soldier and not on the Irish: go watch the movie! It doesn't take a strong point either way and was actually surprisingly balanced unlike many previous troubles movies, in my opinion. No it doesn't give a detailed history of why the IRA were fighting but it does do what it says on the tin; it's a war thriller that could in all honesty be set in any part of the world. The point is, I doubt an Englishman is going to watch this and come away thinking "well in this movie the soldier was being chased by Irishmen so that must mean they're evil". This movie isn't political in the slightest and that's what makes it so refreshing and well done amongst all the over "troubles films".

The film IS political, in the way it demonstrates the brutality & double-crossings occuring in any war (especially civil war or an occupation). Great film, by any standard !

It shows quite enough to show that the IRA's type of conduct was capable of getting innocent Irish people into a life-fearing depth of trouble innocently + by accident. That they were gangsters + exactly as in the Weimar republic no such thing can ever exist as why a gangster force in terror rule over a community was fighting. It shows the best logical clincher you can ever have of how their whole idea was evil.

It also does well by showing him as not just a soldier, a young man who was green and probably knew very little about the causes people were fighting for...thrown into a shitstorm basically.

When the british came back to northern ireland they were greeted and welcomed by the catholics because they were considered to be the saviours from the ruc who were killing innocent catholics on a daily basis. The first british soldier to be killed in northern ireland was killed by a protestant, the british army then responded by killing 4 innocent civilians. The catholics did not start fighting against the brits until the brits found a stash of ira weapons in a house, in response to this find the brits ransacked houses in the area and beat the owners and killed an innocent civilian. That is when the ira started getting support.

People seem really quick to judge. Most these people leaving hateful comments probably weren't even alive to be effected by this conflict. People need to remember that nations aren't hive-minds not everyone from that country is the same and they most definitely aren't all responsible for the actions of that nation. The world is full of actions and reactions. When something happens people react and they often react badly and then the people that react to that also react badly and on and on it goes. I'm English, am I responsible for those killed during the making and maintenance of the Empire? No. Are my parents? No. Are my grandparents (one of whom was stationed in Northern Ireland)? No. This goes for whatever side you may see yourself on. You cannot condemn someone for the actions of their country. As an English youth I feel great sympathy for the plight of the Irish people, and I do feel guilt because to an extent my country was built on the conquest of other. However, I refuse to feel responsible and I refuse to feel the need to apologise for something that I had no hand in.

+Lazy Spark It's not about you feeling guilty now lad, there's nothing to feel guilty for. It's about the UK doing the right thing, like it did with its other colonies, and give back northern Ireland to the republic. The occupation need not continue.

For two long the Troubles has been portrayed in film as the poor downtrodden Irish vs the brutal colonialist Brits The reality is a lot more complex. For those ignorant enough to call the IRA heroes, consider this. OVER HALF of all civilian deaths in this conflict were at the hands of the IRA. Freedom Fighters? What freedom did they show to the countless people killed and maimed in hotels, pubs and nightclubs! What did 21 innocent Brummies have to do with the actions of some aspects of the British Army? The IRA should be remembered for what it was- a ruthless terrorist organisation! And just for the record, I apply the same logic to the UVF, UDA and so on.
@vividexstance
@vividexstance 9 жыл бұрын
Too bad your fellow citizens and government didn't do the same cuz the UDA was a legal organziation to join up until the early 90s. How the hell did that happen? They used the cover name of UFF when they did their dirty deeds. "When the forces of law, break the law, in order to uphold the law, there is no law."

When an elite army that had an empire spanding across the globe comes to a small island full of farmers and hard working people and starts killing and raping everything in sight what would you do? Stand by and watch no i don't think so the proud men of the irish republican army fought and devastated the ranks of one of the best fighting forces in the world, the IRA created the four man fighting cell gorilla warfare which proved so effective against the British army that it is now used by special forces across the globe. So when you talk about the ira just remember one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter up the ra !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess no one realizes that we've all been breeding with other countries, soon enough there won't even be an American, German, or anything of the sort.
