More great tips GP! I would add that you should remove the shear bolts and spin the blower to see if the shafts spin free of each other at the shear pin mating areas. I put a little oil on the mating surfaces to keep them from sticking together. I destroyed a blower gear box on a new blower because the shafts were stuck together and wouldn't allow the shear pin to break, as it should. The fine Canadian manufacturer sent me a new gear box since I had only used the blower twice! The blower got too close to a tarp I had covering a pile of sand and ate it! The tarp was buried under the snow and I thought I was far enough away from it but found out I wasn't! I used to use Gojo to clean my greasy hands but now I use blue Dawn dishwashing soap. It's the one with the duck on the label. Sometimes a small brush is required also. I also use it to clean parts and spray it on my really dirty clothes before washing them. Cheers from MA!

Yup, that time of the year to think of snow blowers, tractors, etc. Nice video. Also, now is the time to get those extra shear pins and put the in your tool bag in your tractor. I make certain I have shear pins, my smaller hammer and the thing (can't remember the name) to hammer out the bolt.

The weather predictor says we will get snow in the higher elevations here tonight. 😬 I still have so much to do! Cover the brush piles, put an opening in the beaver dam, do some final brush mowing, clean, grease, and put away the implements I won't need for the winter! we have had constant rain the past two days! Never enough time! I like that you are showing the maintenance you have to do to get your snow blower ready! Now to get the winter gear ready for me!

I had my shoes wear out in 1 year on my blower. I took an old pair of shoes and welded a piece of trailor springs onto the shoes. After 3 years of use on a gravel driveway they are only polished and no wear. My spring was settled and fit the curvature of the shoe real close. I cut the piece of spring with an abrasive wheel on a 4 1/2 Inch grinder. I dont think I will ever have to replace them again. Have a good day.

Same here on my l4469 front mount blower. Last winter in Southern Ontario was an odd one, the weather was really up and down so I had a hard time building up a base of any kind. Went through a new set of skid shoes before the weather warmed up

One suggestion I would have is to grease and lube all of the necessary spots in Spring when you take the blower off for Summer storage. If there would happen to be any moisture or water in any of the bearings, greasing them before storage will force the water out before it sits for an extended period.

Gord thanks for this video. Just what in needed to refresh my memory. Also can see I will have to turn my K connect on it’s side to get at more zerks. By the way nice PA snatch block hanging on your garage wall. I have plenty of those pulleys here for a variety of jobs. I knock out the roll pins and put in safety spring clips which makes it easier to get the cable in and out of the pulley.

Awsome video as always gp! If i can add a couple things on your maintenance plan; I have an L4060 cab tractor with a front mount l4469 blower, and were coming into our 3rd season with it. Its bigger than gp's but relatively the same with exception to the size and the way it mounts to the tractor...regardless... 1; one of my biggest issues last season was making sure to have correct tension on the blower auger-chain. I made the mistake of being ocd about everything and over tensioning the chain on a regular basis and ended up destroying the tensioner gear assembly. A hard learned lesson indeed! 2; i keep my tractor and equipment in a shop when not being used and spraying the blower housing with pam cooking spray drastically improved the issue of snow building up inside the blower. 3; last winter was so up and down temperature-wise that i had a tough time maintaining a proper base on my gravel driveway, i ended up having to replace the skid-shoes 3/4 of the way through the season. Having an extra set on hand is definitely a good idea for folks with a gravel driveway. 4; Gord is a wise man when it comes to his maintenance work! I have found that using winter-weight chainsaw bar oil is a cheaper alternative to buying aerosol can of spray grease. I bought an oiler-can off amazon for about 30 dollars canadian And a jug of chainsaw bar oil from canadian. Tire. I never run out and im barely halfway through the jug after almost 3 winters. I love the front mounted blower and look forward to every snowfall we get! Hopefully this coming winter is snowy and cold! Thanks again GP! Looking forward to your winter vids!!

Winter is now definitely coming. I always wondered if you end up over-boarding on winter maintenance, you're tempting Mother Nature, "Like give me your best shot," sort of thing. But common sense and my practical nature have me out with a grease gun, wrench, pliers and a screw driver. It's a seasonal ritual sort of thing. Love the video and it's timely message.

Great tips GP!!! Nearing our blower season here! Last season, I made the mistake of routing one hydrolic line improperly. I broke off a nipple after my front tire lug caught the line. A mess of 1 quart of hydrolic fluid spraying over everything, I don't want to repeat!!!! 😝

Morning GP! Great video! Currently shopping for a B series just like the one you had. I’m roughly an hour North of Trois-Rivières with intense snowfalls and want to move up from ATV plowing to a better tool. So many other things lined up for a compact tractor. I’ve seen so many of your videos over the last two years and have to honestly say, they are extremely useful for newbies. Nice to know what you’re getting into. Thank you! I picked up my 2980 blower in crates, I built and installed it. The manual states to use grease on the shoot. I’m guessing your dealer may have used a thicker summer grease and not a winter (lighter) grease? I find it’s better to service the equipment before storage as greasing will displace any moisture while in storage. Great video!
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Good morning Dan! That's great and must have been a fun project to put together. That is a good point about the manual - I have the more expensive winter grease but it is still like gum in the winter here. Just FYI only - one of the Kubota mechanics has the same blower I had and removed the grease as well for this reason and only uses the chain lube - that's where I learned to do it this way. Excellent point about the maintenance in the spring - that makes a lot of sense. Thanks again - have a great week!

Good morning Gord, very informative video and great tips. Did you get the chain lube from the dealer or Canadian Tire? I am back to watching your videos on the computer instead of the big screen TV so I can leave comments. I just picked up a rear mount blower, it's not as good as the front mount but I need to keep the front loader on for the bucket and grapple throughout the winter. Gojo is a great product. It's the best stuff to use to remove the smell off your pet if it gets sprayed by a skunk.
@GPOutdoors

Morning JO. I got it from the dealer. I think you will enjoy the rear mount - I tried one once - they seem to have more power ( so to speak) than the front. And hey no worries - please watch on your big screen - I know you watch when you have time as i do yours and others, and perhaps just say hi once in a while. Have a great day!
