This is awesome. I get kinda tired of hearing You Tube influencers saying “oh , I’m 40 years old now. I probably shouldn’t be doing this anymore”. Really ?!?!?!? Really great to see Doug tearin it up. Rock on Doug .

had a heart attack at 46, coded 3 times, 2 years later, got cancer and went through chemo/radiation, there's other dumb health stuff too... but at the end of last summer, i bought an eMTB and it was literally life changing from the moment i first got on it. i'm back to trail riding after almost 10 years of doing nothing. had my first Bentonville trip scheduled for last month but looped out and broke my scapula. rescheduled for a May trip, i'll be 54. this video almost brought me to tears. i'm absolutely ecstatic to know it's possible i might have another 20 years of riding in me! thanks soooo much for this video!!! to say it's inspiring would be a huge understatement! 😊

I can't tell you how inspirational this video is for me. I just discovered mountain biking about 9 months ago. I was chronically overweight and unhealthy. I have lost almost 50 lb since then and feeling better than I have in decades. I was starting to feel old because everybody I see at the parks is very young but this has really changed my attitude I will definitely try to schedule hey listen when I make it to Bentonville in a few months. Thank you.

Seriously one of our friends, Eddie started mtbing and has lost over 150lbs. He’s riding a lot and is continuing to get in fantastic shape and keeps losing weight. Eat right and ride hard, and YES train with Anneke, she will change your life for the better.

This was cool to watch and funny perspective as I'm 46 and nursing a sore back from crashing after a jump over a week ago LOL! Lets go Doug!!! So cool to think I will still be riding for a long time! I met another 72 yr old dude last year at Raceway Woods in IL. He was also on an ebike and more stoked than anyone I have ever met on the trails! He let my buddy try his bike and told us about Brown County IN. I hit those trails a couple months later and they were sweet!

Im 66 and currently learning to jump . . . . had some great coaching and now its up to me to just practice, one thing thats holding me back is once ive compressed and cleared the lip i tend to hunch over and look at the landing creating a "C" shape with my spine, its soooooo annoying and will in time cause a crash and OTB! no matter how i try im having a hard time trying to break this habit I know what i need to do once ive compressed i just need to stand tall . . . . easy right hahahaha . . . . err no One coach suggested pulling my visor all the way down forcing me to look up . . . gonna be trying that on the weekend do you have any suggestions?

Don't know how long you've been riding, but you will crash eventually. If you ride, there's no getting out of it. Comes with the territory.

The reality of mountain biking is that you WILL crash. If you ride, you will eventually crash. PERIOD. I've been riding mountain bikes for 35 years and bikes in general [bmx etc] for over 50 years. This is the reality of riding mountain bikes, this is the reality of jumping especially. At age 72 and beyond, crashes - especially from even minor jumps gone wrong - can be life altering for sure. And by life altering I mean in a very bad way. These inspirational videos should be tempered with reality. Any mountain biker knows what I'm saying is true too. Why doesn't this lady? Why doesn't she say this out loud to this old man who just started mountain biking recently and doesn't necessarily know what we know?
@annekebeerten7 ай бұрын
Ahhh you like to see the glas half empty, I like to see the glas half full! Doug is learning to jump in a safe way by getting coaching. I’ve been riding and racing professionally for over 20 years and know the risk of crashing. But I also know out of my own experience that you can get hurt while driving your car and get heavenly injured in a car accident for example. If you take lessons, ride within your own ability, then mountain biking is safe. Enjoy life as much as you can, even if that means taking a little risk, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Like Doug said, “don’t sit on the couch, go out and ride.”
@drott1507 ай бұрын
@@annekebeerten That's all nonsense - red herrings and a very bad analogy. Almost all of us have to drive or sub that activity out to someone else to do it for us. We have to in order to live out our lives for work, travel, getting groceries, going to the doctor etc. You don't have to ever ride a mountain bike [much less jump one], it's purely a recreational activity and it's a lifestyle choice you can easily opt out of and replace with some other physical activity that's much, much less likely to result in a serious life altering injury [like hiking or walking etc]. Also, I've never had a crash or been injured driving. I've had countless spills and crashes on mountain bikes though. Sprained ankles, broken collar wrists, severe contusions and raspberries twisted ankles and the list goes on. My friends have all broken their collar bones, some gotten concussions, broken arms and legs, knocked out teeth etc. It happens. And the more you ride, the more you stunt the worse it'll be. And I don't care how good you are or how many classes you take. It's gonna happen and you know it. Taking lessons at 72 in no way shape or form will insulate that man from getting hurt or worse jumping mountain bikes. Especially because he has no muscle memory of riding or stunting from when he was young. Especially on an electric mountain bike that can achieve speeds his legs normally wouldn't be able to muster. I've seen older fellas take on mountain biking later in life and in one case the guy had a bad crash and eventually died from his injuries. Old newbies like that just don't have the instincts built over a lifetime someone like me or you have. But even for us, as we approach his age, the body and mind don't coordinate the way they used to. I'm younger than him, but older than you - I know. And you will know as the years roll on too. But you certainly already know that crashing on mountain bikes comes with the territory no matter what age we are. Not a matter of if it will happen - only a matter of when and how bad will it be? Tell me I'm wrong, and you will reveal yourself further as no "expert" rider.

I skied for 55 years I know injuries, you need to relax, Life brings us many challenges. In 2020 I was in the hospital with Covid 19. (Near death BTW.) My recovery was prompted by my pulmonologist, “get out and do an aerobic exercise”, I choose MTB. My lungs will never be the same, but COPD has been reduced, no drugs. The energy and enthusiasm for this sport, (YES dangerous), has saved me. Anneke trains within personal limits, she knows the steps to SAFELY achieve a goal. Please be respectful of her technique of education. I can testify to her success. The love she has for life and cycling comes through in every interaction I’ve had with her.
@drott150Ай бұрын
@@douglaskaye1395 So you admit it's true: _"YES dangerous!"_ Yes, you do need to relax. Relax as in don't take up jumping mountain bikes at age 72! And she is not training this old man within his personal limits. If this old man is/was of sound mind and he still wants to do it? So be it. But she's leading a lamb towards likely injury and perhaps worse. As for you? Jump to your heart's delight. As for me and everyone else, age gracefully and wisely. Know when to surrender certain activities of your youth and adapt with something gentler.
