ShippingHarbors, thank you so much for your excellent videos! Please check out the following Website to download the iVSP2.1 and more information: voith.com/corp-en/drives-transmissions/voith-schneider-propeller-vsp.html?96528%5B%5D=0 It would be great if you could demonstrate the mechanical control system of the VSP. There seem to be many questions how the control component work, although it is quite easy and accurate. Greetings from Heidenheim!

Incredibly organized engine room, and very clean. Do you know how much torque this boat puts out?

I've watched a few of your videos a number of times. I get the feeling that most of the sound (besides the turbo chargers) comes from the Scania generators. Those are impressive engines.

I like this quick visit of the engine room ; maybe some subtitles just to name the rooms on the main deck, and the main parts we see of the engine ? Do I see well or are there radiators left and right at the far end of the room @ 2:30, white painted ? Heating should not be a problem here…
@ShippingHarbors8 жыл бұрын
Those radiators are there when the tug drydock at wintertime for example. The engines are cold then and those radiators prevent freezing temps in the engineroom.

Nice video but where're the turbines?
@stanpatterson50337 жыл бұрын
It's largely an audible feature, not so much visual, but you can see one of the turbines (or turbochargers) on the end of one of the engines as the cameraman come down the stairs at 01:22. It's green with huge white piping protruding out the ends. These turbines gather exhaust gasses, using the spent energy to spin 2 turbine wheels connected by a common shaft. One side is the "hot" side which is forced to turn by the pressurized exhaust gasses, the other side is the "cold" side which draws filtered fresh air from the ductwork, compresses it and pumps it off towards the intercooler. During the compressing stage, the air gets quite warm relative to when it was just ambient air, so it goes through a cooler system, sort of like a radiator would help cool a liquid, the intercooler cools the air while still in a compressed state. After passing thru the intercooler, is it routed by ductwork to the intake manifold where it collects under pressure until it gets taken into a cylinder and begins the cycle of combustion. The turbines (or turbochargers) only respond to increase or decrease of exhaust pressures. So when more fuel is introduced to a diesel, more exhaust is created after the combustion process is finished. There is a very slight delay (called turbo-lag) in the time that more power is called for and the time that the turbines can "spin up" to assist the additional fuel to be combusted. The whining sound is the sound that the blades make on both the hot and cold sides of the compressor. The blades (rotor assembly) can spin at speeds in excess of 100,000 rotations per minute for smaller turbochargers. The whining sound is the sound of the turbine blades shearing the gasses (air is also a gas). Some of the sound is heard at the end of the exhaust pipe, but some does bleed thru the ductwork in the immediate vicinity. The exhaust gasses, after leaving the exhaust manifold, are harnessed to do this work of driving the turbine compressor, which robs no power from the engine. After the exhaust gas does its' job of spinning the hot side of the turbocharger, it is released to the exhaust pipe, and routed to the tailpipe, or in this case, the smokestack. This is why on a diesel engine you can sometimes see black smoke (should not be excessive) and it is occurring in the "lag time" where more fuel is being sent to the engine but the additional compressed air has not yet been built-up by the turbocharger because it is still spooling up to the speed it needs to get up to generate a good balance for the additional fuel to burn cleanly and thoroughly. Modern diesels use sophisticated computer-run management systems that make hundreds of comparisons and restrict the introduction of huge, sudden increases in amounts of fuel until the air mixture will be the correct amount to aid in a cleaner burn.

@ShippingHarbors8 жыл бұрын
Een ASD zal dan ongetwijfeld sterker zijn. Deze Voith boten hebben 70 ton bollard pull met 7200pk, en een ASD zal met diezelfde pk's ergens tussen de 85 en 95 Ton hebben ongeveer.
