As much as I hate to admit it, me too. 30 dollar cheap somewhere Else made jeans vs 100 buck American jeans of slightly quality jeans. The 50 buck foreign vs the 100 buck American. I would still bought the foreign jeans. Just being honest. If it’s for 50 percent but 75 percent. Prob buy American. The gap is so huge these days. I want to buy American made. But I sometimes feel that the American company ask more just bc it’s American made only, and no other reason. To an extent, they have that right. But I also have the right to buy oversea stuff. We, as Americans or the west need to find a way to fit the hole someway where everyone actually wins from ceo to plant emp to buyer of the thing

@@731Woodworks It's not really about the "sponsorship" or being paid by Woodpeckers. Its about what's accessible to the "average" person. Your channel is geared more towards the average person and using Woodpecker tools in videos can make woodworking appear to be inaccessible to the average person. When I started I looked up tools the KZbinrs was using tried to get those because I didn't have a frame of reference. By using Woodpecker, it can put up a barrier for some. Im laughing my butt off! I was a head draftsman at a company that made doors and frames for the dept of corrections in Calif. That is NOT, I repeat not a "6 in one" ruler. It is an architects scale. It is used to both measure from existing plans, as well as drawing plans to a certain scale, i.e. 1/4 = 1 foot, etc. They are probably more accurate than anything Woodpeckers makes. There are no metric markings on an architects scale. Amazon sells them for 7 bucks in anodized alum in many colors. I always recommend matt Black to not reflect light. The one I used was plastic laminated bamboo. Most were back then. Learn how to use one. They are very useful.

Just a comment about Woodpeckers: I was fortunate to have a personal one-on-one tour of their manufacturing facility. As a manufacturing engineer I was interested in their processes. Their array of the latest machining technology and the volume of CNC multi-axis machining centers is more than a little impressive. I was blown away, and that's not easy to do with my experience. Interestingly, I learned that 40-50% of their production is sold to tool collectors. It would be awesome to afford to fully equip my shop with their products, however, I'm just a hobbyist and conservative buyer. I really enjoy your product reviews. It has helped me on numerous occasions.

I am an occasional DIY guy, so I am not putting them through heavy usage, but to this point, I have had no issues, and they do the jobs I need them for at a price that I can afford. I have a number of WEN products. I would describe them all as "fine". They're cheap and work well for the money. I'm not sure I'd trust them for anything precision, though. Yours look accurate right now, but I don't have a lot of faith in their QA process. I'm also not sure I'd trust them to _stay_ accurate after they spend a couple years changing temperature in a garage. That said, this is woodworking not machining. So even if they're not completely perfect, they're probably good enough for anything I'm likely to use them for.

"6 in 1 ruler" is actually called a "scale". There are different types; the other side is not metrics, it is just a different scale (16 = 1/16" = 1'-0" or it is also a common scale. The other sides are: 1/4" = 1'-0", 1/8" = 1'-0", 3/8" = 1'=0", 3/16" = 1'-0", and 3" = 1'-0" and 1-1/2" = 1'-0". The scale you showed is called an architectural scale. There are also Engineering scales and metric scales. As a design drafter, I have used them every day for the past 37 years. ;)

And I understand that things in particular things that are assembled have much higher labor costs associated with them but I am sorry no metal layout ruler should be over 200$... You can only be so accurate, these are not super precise guague blocks that can ring together lol, I mean the 10" Wen is 15$ and the 12" woodpecker is 120$.. You can essentially get the entire set for the price of one woodpecker.

There's not a good layout tool in the batch. You have to have about 6 inch for square. It has to be a miter. It has to lock. Where is that? Show me. GARBAGE. and ONLY $30 APIECE? Yeah - shove it inna earloba.

Okay, I'll say it. You sound funny when you say "Wood Pecker". 🙂 Reminds me of a scene in The Green Mile :-) Anyway, great video tho. I'm clicking on the link now to price these out. Thanks.

I've had terrible luck with WEN power tools... apparently from the comments I'm the only one. This video is surprising. Does a dead accurate square need to cost $80? Apparently not. Considering getting some of these.

Always nice to support companies in the USA over China. However for most usages it’s simply not worth the extra money in my opinion. Being a toolmaker and using extremely high accuracy tools I find the accuracy not nearly as important in wood working. Who cuts wood to +/-.0002 . So for my money I’d purchase Wen. One interesting point though is ascetics as you mentioned . Red is supposedly the best color for getting your attention and sales. Now for me it’s blue and that’s a personal preference. Honestly I’ve bought a bunch of layout tools from Home Depot which are blue anodized. Again for wood working most are accurate enough. Nice video as always 👍🏼👍🏼

i like when he sais " if you are in the metric " like if the metric système is the weird one ... 1 ft = 12 in 1 yd = 3 ft 1 yd = 36 in 1 mile = 1760 yards WTF is that ? when you have 650 k follawers you should assume 70% of them are not weird Americans and have soem sort of logic XD

As someone that has to buy things on a budget - I buy the best I can at a price point. That's often not what I want & it's often Asian made. As a Quality Engineer employed in Precision American Manufacturing - I buy the best American products I can, when I can. I make really good money (& yeah, still on a budget)... my counter parts in Asia don't in comparison... price reflects a companies costs, not just profits, & that includes labor... I remember a meeting several years ago when the company was 1/2 the size it is now (about 60 employees then)... between equipment depreciation, consumables, rent, electricity, labor etc... it cost the company about $50k just to open the doors for businesses everyday. If you want to support talented American engineers & machinists & believe that wash bay personnel & the janitor should make a living wage & that workers in the anodize & EP cells should be provided with hundreds of thousands of dollars in regulatory & safety equipment... then paying the extra money when you can to American companies should be a priority.

That architects scale -- the 3 sided one; down near the zero end is a series of tiny marks. Those are inches (or multiples of 12) for that scale. So if you're looking at the side marked 1/4", on a set of blueprints drawn at 1/4" =1', that area is 1 foot & each mark is 1" (or fraction depending on the scale - count 'em) Higher precision scales have more marks (1/2"s at scale, 1/4"s at scale...) and that's pretty common these days. The old wooden ones had 1/12 graduations, and that was it..

Thanks for this! I don't have the budget for Woodpecker no matter how much I'd like to have a bunch of their stuff, so I'm excited to grab a few of these (layout square and t's) as a stepping stone to the MITUSA stuff.

The mere fact that Woodpeckers was getting away with selling their tools at their price point is mind boggling. I’m willing to pay A LITTLE bit more for something made in the USA, but not 2-3-4X the price.

Wen is headquartered in West Dundee, Illinois. And their products aren't just made in China. Some are made in the US, Germany, Vietnam, etc. So maybe feel better about buying Wen?

Going to tell y’all. I bought a T sqaure off Temu for a single build. But the cabinets I made came out perfect. It was $34 or something for their wood pecker clone. I decided after the job it’ll break. If I need it again. I’ll get the forever tool in the woodpecker. But… here we are, multiple cabinets and large sheets broken down perfectly. Still there. When it breaks. I’ll go wen. And when that breaks. I’ll go woodpecker.

There's nothing wrong with avoiding products based on country of origin. This is a global economy, and therefore impossible to avoid ending up with products from certain countries, or even made in USA products that contain foreign parts. However, that doesn't mean we should just give up on our principles and just go with it. I have items made in China. I have items made in other countries with parts made in China. I still go out of my way to find alternatives, and that's easy to do with a product like this. Just because someone else doesn't hold your values, you don't have to just keep it to yourself. The comment section is for exchanging ideas, and in perfectly happy to exchange ideas with someone who doesn't agree with me. I avoid Chinese products not only to keep money out of China, but to encourage companies to produce elsewhere. WEN is based in the US, and makes products in countries other than China. What amazes me is actions by China that don't seem to matter enough for widespread boycotts, would have mattered (or did) if done by the Soviet Union during the cold war, or Russia today. China persecutes all religions, including Christianity. Even when they show tolerance, they make it as difficult as possible to enjoy that tolerance. They specifically make weapons to counter the US, and have mockups of American carriers to practice against. They are a threat to our allies. Heck, Ukraine wasn't even our ally, and has a corrupt leader, and we're falling all over ourselves to help them against Russia. China cares very little for the wellbeing of their own people. They are responsible for many civilian deaths. By China I mean the CCP. I likely would not have made a comment at all, except for the keyboard comment. I know is hard to tell tone in text. The isn't a hostile response. I do feel strongly about it. I love China the country. I adopted my daughter from China and loved the time I was there. China is great. The CCP, not so much.
