Thank you, Lee 🙏🙏🙏 Good drawing, good music, and good insight. I've been playing guitar and bass for ~35 years, and hadn't thought about thinking in subdivisions until you demonstrated it. Finding the space between is where the magic happens. Thankful you could articulate how I think musically... of course, I've been listening to you play bass for 50 or so years, knowingly or unknowingly 😊 Be good to you 🤍

Great session today, thank you for this wonderful artist❣️. I too think about living in the moment and the list of those I know who are gone. I am determined to make the best of all my days, could be gone in a blink. On a brighter note....beautiful portrait! The likeness is incredible. We had a terrible windstorm here in AZ. Glad we don't live in Phoenix, they had incredible dust storm. But freeze warning tonight. Enough rambling for me....stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a great Tuesday 👍😉

What a glorious voice. Really loved your explanation of how you feel the time. I would've guessed it was in 8th notes - that's what I hear in your playing - and totally understand why you prefer to hear it that way. Paulette is wonderful - and it is ALWAYS a pleasure to hear you and Carlos together.

I'm glad the I'm not the only one who feels the groove better on a smaller subdivision than the quarter note. I'll start with quarter, then find the 8th, then the 16th. I find it makes it easier to find the syncopation points that are possible.

Paulette has such a wonderful voice and feel. I had the pleasure of seeing Highway 101 several times. They sounded great together, but it just seemed like there was tension underneath. Kinda like she was the front of the band, but the guys just looked at her as the girl singer. It just felt like they wouldn’t be together too much longer. I remember seeing Curtis Stone and Cactus Moser in the Twist and Shout band in the Rodney Dangerfield movie “Back to School”. Highway 101 was a great project. Paulette just shines. Thanks for playing these songs. She’s fantastic. Wishing you all the best. 💜💜💜

Paulette Carlson will most likely be remembered for her time in Highway 101. It always seemed to me that after she left the band and went solo, Country Radio didn't really care for it and just quit playing her music. At the time this album came out, artists like Reba, Lorrie Morgan, and others were being played on Country Radio.

I was glad to hear you talk about subdivision, a bassist (drummers too) must use subdivision because the beats are there play them or not. Take funk for example I start with 16th notes, I don't play all 16 per measure I pick the ones that work. Take 6/8 time, fast is easy your moving the whole time But slow and you only play on the 4 & 6 you better be counting all six, because the time in between the notes you might start THINKING! Don't think keep counting or you might not be strong on the only two beats your playing in the slow song. Thinking between your parts leads to very embarrassing trainwrecks.

Highway 101 received airplay in Australia but I believe Paulette Carlson is huge in the States. It’s fascinating watching you describe how you feel the beat however, because a lot of the music I play swings the offbeat I feel it in quarter notes but the next time I play straight ahead Rock I’ll try to emulate your 1/8th note feel. ( even when you clap 2 and 4 your pocket is right back there)

Paulette Carlson should have been bigger as a solo artist. Highway 101 with Paulette was her high point as well as the band’s high watermark. The record company put a big push on country radio and on country video channels but her success with Highway 101 was not matched but it was not due to industry promotion. In the final analysis, Highway 101 needed her and she needed them.

Agreed totally on when bands really ought to record. I've lost count of the number of albums, studio or live, I've heard where it was obvious the band was searching for a something new as the next step, but hadn't found it yet. They should have gone on the road and worked it up, and not released the album till they had. Record company demands for product can make that hard, but in general, don't record till you have stuff finished to something you are satisfied with, and not just good enough to get an album out the door.

Regarding the clapping of the audience: There is a funny fact: Americans and British folks clap on 2 and 4 (like the snare drum). But for some reasons Germans always clap on 1 and 3. Drives me crazy whenever I go to a concert 😬😬😬
