First, thank you so much for taking the time out to show us how to replace the blend door. I live in the midwest and my heat stopped working about 2 yrs ago. I was very nervous about doing this myself especially with the heatee core being so close to the blend door but I was able to fix it with no issues. For any woman reading this, if I can do it so can you. Just watch his video from beginning to end first, get every tool that he suggested, remove the car seat and get a pillow for your back then go to work. It might look challenging but it's not. Might is back working now. Again, thank you so much!

I finally replaced my blend door last night. I started at 9:45p and by 11:30p the new part was in and secured. I think I could have knocked this out even quicker but a few things held me up. 1. The plastic piece that you cut off to access the blend door, TRIM it like this video suggests. I tried to put it back in without trimming it and I couldn't align it right. I fought it for a while before giving up and then trimmed it. It went in right away after. 2. The AC vent tube that is removed at the beginning needs to be put in first when you are reassembling it and the BCM pieces/wires. I tried installing the BCM first and then the vent tube and failed miserably. Once I took out the BCM (and the bracket it is in) the vent tube reattached easily. 3. Get a GOOD light. I can't stress this one enough as there is very little room down there to work in and you can't see anything without a good light you can reposition over and over to get good views of everything. If you need something good to cut the access door with, I hight recommend this ($40) plastic welder. I bought it several years ago for other projects and it worked great for this project too! There is a rounded tip that comes with it that was perfect for the job. It took me about 5 minutes to cut out the plastic piece., seriously 5 minutes if that!! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00002N7S1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We just finished our 2014 Camaro. Could not have done it w/o this video. Thank you very much! FWIW - a couple tips that may help others as well... Before you seal it up, don't forget to pull out the broken piece of the blend air door. We thought we might not have pulled it out. In fact when we tested it, we heard some rattling inside the dash when the fan was on max circulation, confirming it was still in there. In the end we wound up getting a vacuum cleaner with flexible nozzle and put it into the cut-out hole. While holding the vacuum in the hole, we covered over the opening with our hands and turned on the fan to max circulation. By doing this, we were able to seal it off enough so the suction from the vacuum, plus the fan, sucked the broken part into the vacuum! We also found that putting the vent on first before connecting the wiring was the way to go. Just be sure to keep the wires tucked back on top of the vent. Good luck!

Got the door cut and out today, wasn't too bad, took a few hours, but I didn't get in any hurry. Only thing I would add is the horizontal screw for the air duct was a Hex 20 on my car and not a 7mm. Mine is a 2012 2SS. When you get these two screws out pull down towards you and rotate clockwise, the duct comes right out. The only issue I have now is trying to fish out the broke end, and the white connector piece, but I'll tackle that tomorrow. I used the borescope and unfortunately, they both are about 1/2 way down to the passenger side, approx. 6"-7" away from the hole I cut. I tried a vacuum with an end on it that would hold them at the end without pulling them into it, but it didn't reach far enough. I guess I'll try a long screwdriver tomorrow. Thanks for the video, made it much easier to do.

I have a 2010 Camaro with the same issue. The A/C mechanic I took it to installed a valve on the heater hose, you close it for A/C and open it for heat. He said he did not know how to fix the blend door and this way was the most practical fix he knew of. Today I found this video and ordered a new blend door off Amazon. Also, when on the order page an electric hot knife popped up. So Amazon must know about this fix. It will be nice to switch from heat to A/C without having to stop and turn the valve and burn the shit out of your fingers. 😮

Just got this done, thank you for the video! I had an issue come up after reconnecting everything and starting the car, the HVAC controls don't work properly, when pressing legs and face it comes out of the windshield vent and legs, not the face. There's also some weird popping noises coming from somewhere in the dash when set to face only and max fan speed. Any idea what I can do? The battery was disconnected the entire time, and I didn't reconnect it until everything was plugged back in.
@737mechanic4 ай бұрын
Disconnecting the battery should cause the door actuators to recalibrate. You may have a bad mode control actuator.

Can this be done on 2011 5.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
@737mechanic4 ай бұрын
It probably can but you would have to figure out where the door is and how to cut it. There was a year range of RAM 1500's that this was also done regularly.

Any tips on unclogging ac drain? Have water spitting out vents.
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
If it is clogged drain you can stick a flexible wire up into the drain tube. You will need to jack the car up so you can access the drain.

QUESTION: am in the process of doing this repair and have hit a snag. The shaft on the actuator motor won’t align with any position that I can adjust the newly installed blend door. It's just slightly off but enough where I can’t even re-bolt the piece on. I’m thinking I can reset with a 9V battery, but can’t find the pin assignment to test. (GM Part # 92215208/ACDelco Part # 15-74128) Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your videos!

Does the actuator fits in any position the door is? Does it matter? Or you need to keep the door closed so the actuator engages in? Do you need to recalibrate with the scanner after you finish installing it? Thanks
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
Anyway, you can get it back on and then disconnect the battery and reconnect and when you start the car it will do a self calibrate.

Just recently did this repair and while my air is still a bit cool compared to what it was, is it possible if you didn’t seal that plastic back up that the air that’s escaping could be coming in contact with the heater core resulting in it blowing warmer than it should? That’s literally the only thing I didn’t do and it started off fairly cool but today it felt warm again. The door seems to work cause I can tell the difference in temp otherwise.
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
Two things, first make sure it is fully charged, second, have someone do a door calibration to make sure it opens and closes all the way.

Hey I just wanna say thank you so much man ! I watched this video for a week straight before doing this job and I’m not a car guy never really put anything together or fix much but take it places to get fixed I tried this out and I did a better job than I was expecting the only real issue I had was putting back the foot air duct because it’s the worst angle to get passed that control module I never removed the module I just knifed around it and got lucky. The only issue I ran into it I got the blend door in place and started my car and it was blowing ice cold ac I turned it from cold to hot and and took it for a drive and it was blowing warm air on the cold setting so you think this has anything to do we me needing to do the havac reset with the codes or do you think my actuator motor is bad ?
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
Disconnect the battery and reconnect it and the car should do a self-learn on all the actuators. Also, make sure the aluminum line under the hood next to the master cylinder is cold. If it isn't very cold then you may need to charge it.
