Hi Jeannie! I’ve been waiting for your comment- not that your obliged or anything, of course, but you’ve been a faithful viewer and commenter and I’d have been a bit disappointed if I hadn’t heard from you for the final video 😊 Glad you like it, I’m pleased too. Not quite I think ‘show narrowboat‘ standard, but really my best effort 🙂 Thanks for all your kind support and encouragement along the way! 🥂🎉🤗

Well done Steve. Loved the montage - it really showed how much work is needed to finish one of these boats. We are looking forward to the day ours is finished... if it doesn't finish us off first. Thanks for the credit at the end.... although I'm pretty sure you supplied quite a bit of the wine consumed in the caravan - and stuff that was definitely better quality than our usual boite de la morte.

Hey Chris. Thank you. Glad you like the montage… but as you said it just shows how much has to be done. I im sure you will get there soon (and what a stunner it will be). Nothing wrong with boite de la morte (other than the morte aspect the following day 😉). Enjoy your break from the rain!

Im impressed with the job you have done. You showed me the talent you have with creating the plans for your build and your use of the tools you gave to actually do the build. We plan on our next visit to England next summer and I’ll make sure I’ll watch for your home to float by. Enjoy your new home. Larry, Waynesboro Virginia

I can only imagine after spending that much time and work on the boat that you need to find a balance and reconnect with friends, maybe some travel etc, thanks for sharing your story and loved that your parents helped with the signage etc. 😊🤗 Kathy

I'm a dipper in and outer, but must congratulate you on getting the boat finished, it's looking great. I also respect your decision to enjoy your new life in Faraday and not be a slave to the world of narrowboat vlogging (which is getting rather full!) I'd be exactly the same... well, apart from the fact I wouldn't have been able to have put together the actual boat, but... you know... 😂 Happy travels!

Hi RJ Lol. I’m sure you could if you tried 😊 I agree about the narrowboat blog being very crowded and tbh I struggle to bare what I could bring to it. Plus the little videos [done entirely on the phone] take a lot more time and effort than a lot of people, I suspect, realise. “Slave to vlogging” is quite apt 😀 Thanks for watching! Cheers, Stephen

For some reason one hour ago KZbin decided I should start the series by watching the Genset commissioning episode. You maintained an amazing pace through the build and I assume you came out ahead in the cost/valuation equation by avoiding frivolities. I felt sick watching you examining the running genset with those neck toggle cords dangling over the running engine. Anyhow you survived and arrived at the finish line. Time for you to go on an extended summer cruise and for me to watch the other 70 episodes. Hmmm what sort of battery bank did you design... let me guess that must be back around episode 10.
@narrowboatmlc
@narrowboatmlc 7 ай бұрын
Hello Fibbertgibbert! Sorry for the delay in responding (naturally I don’t check my account so often these days). You’re so right about the genset and the hoodie cords. When I saw the video of myself, I was absolutely horrified at the idiocy 🙃 happily I survived the instinct. Cost wise I was on the back foot from day one due to the huge steel price increase wrt to Covid/Ukraine… also plywood was ridiculous money at that period… so I was rather forced up economise regardless… As you said, you’ll see the battery bank a bit previously. It’s individual cells, which haven’t been entirely trouble free, but are doing the job, thankfully. The recent good weather has allowed me to move about (in a leisurely manner) entirely on solar power. Hope you enjoy watching and thanks for the comments! Cheers, Stephen

@@narrowboatmlc Thanks for responding. Big saving to be had in building a diy lithium bank it seems. The equivalent in Victron batteries would be x 2 to 3 times the price. How quiet is the electric motor proving to be? The final episodes of you navigating along the Cut we accompanied with celebratory music to suit your mood which left me guessing the motor decibels. I am probably going for a diesel engine on soft mounts with an aqua-drive and hospital silencer. Even diy I calculate the serial-hyrid cost premium is about £20k.

This video just popped into my recommends, you have done a great job on your boat. Making videos is no easy task. The thing that is the most time consuming in my opinion is the editing, hours for even 5 min. vid. in my case. One approach is to look at the vids as a journal and just do them as an occasional snapshot of a time period, no editing, just stream of conscious or narration as you motor down a canal. As for the monetization, again my opinion, is to grasp what revenue is coming in and control the placement of ads. Cheers. I'll creep back to my cave now.
@narrowboatmlc
@narrowboatmlc 9 ай бұрын
Hi L.I.T.K. Well Thank you very much🙂 Totally agree about the time it takes to edit things - especially as I do it all on my old phone (laptop not up to the job). I’d imagine with your instructional videos that was even more difficult to get things edited as you need. I chuckled at the ‘stream of consciousness’/journal approach - that’s basically what my filming was - and it still then took forever to edit 😀 Monetisation strategies are kinda irrelevant as I was so far away from the KZbin requirements (and wasn’t trying to reach them to be fair). You mentioned journals - the whole enterprise was at its core my own journal to record a significant period of my life and for that it’s worked great and I’m happy to now put the camera (phone)down. Cheers, Stephen

Well done on completing your build, hope the hybrid is behaving itself. Could I ask a question? Did you treat the fuel tank interior with anything to prevent rust whilst it was on the hard? Our shell is due very soon and as our build will be a long one, I’m wondering if I should do anything to prevent rust in the tank. Happy boating!
@narrowboatmlc
@narrowboatmlc 8 ай бұрын
Hello there and thanks! I'll preface what I say with the caveat that I have no expertise in the matter, but, all I did was to make sure the tank remained sealed (at the filler and the vent etc.) during the build. Yeas I am sure a little rust will have accumulated, but I don't see any alternative. Any other coating/treatment you add is going to have the risk of then degrading/ coming off once you fill with diesel, which will probably cause more issues then any rust particles (which will be sorted out by the preliminary fuel filter). So I wouldn't stress too much. Hybrid working well, although some of the cells in the battery i assembled can be a bit pernickety, but not enough to hugely impact my style of cruising (which is relatively slow and steady). Cheers, Stephen
@wayneworld5958
@wayneworld5958 8 ай бұрын
Thanks Stephen, I did wonder about spraying the inside with a little diesel then sealing it in the hope that it would stop any rust developing and any degraded diesel in the tank would be diluted by the full tank when the engine is fitted. Glad the hybrid is good and happy cruising to you.

@narrowboatmlc 8 ай бұрын
@wayneworld5958 - you know (again no authority for me to comment) but your spray and seal might not be a bad idea - can’t see it would do any harm 🙂

Hi Stephen, me again. Did you insure your shel whilst fitting it out on the hard? If so, who did you use? We are struggling to find an insurer.
@narrowboatmlc
@narrowboatmlc 8 ай бұрын
Hi again Wayne. Yes I did insure the shell (if nothing else, it was a requirement of the boatyard to have liability insurance, so it made sense to go the whole hog as it were. I used/use craftinsure, I didn’t notice any particular issues setting up the insurance with them.
@wayneworld5958
@wayneworld5958 8 ай бұрын
Hi Stephen, we did contact them but they no longer insure boats without an engine. 😳 We got sorted with a policy from Nautical insurance with a rising value as the build progresses. Thanks for the reply. Wayne
@narrowboatmlc
@narrowboatmlc 8 ай бұрын
@@wayneworld5958 Glad you got it sorted out. I have to say, it seems a bit irrelevant engine or not on a hardstanding, but I realise insurers these days don't like to have anything that is 'non-standard'. Good to hear you have something sorted out.

I would say very much not. I’m haven’t done the final calculations, but if I am candid, if I had known how much it would end up, I probably wouldn’t have started. If I sold it, I probably wouldn’t get my money back. Boats are like cars - gradually depreciating as they rust away 😀
