Hello my Creative Friends,
Today we are playing with resin in an innovative and fun way.
Crushed glass resin sculpture with:
Le Rez Star burst = glitzy glam ✨😊✨
Artisue Teal
Artisue bright gold
And my favourite resin- MAD resin. (2 cups)
I got the mat from Kmart- Amazon has similar.
This creation is directly inspired by Sue Findlay- here’s the link to the original for you to view; • How to bend curing res...
Do check out Sue’s KZbin channel / you’ll be amazed at her creative abilities and feel incredibly inspired 💖 I’m a massive fan of hers 💖
I heard that Artists to Death are going to give this creation a whirl too! So yay 💖 ATD KZbin is here: / @artisttilldeath
If you’re in Australia and looking at starting your resin journey- I can’t recommend MAD resin enough. By the way- I’m not affiliated with MAD resin at all- I just find it so good and feel it’s a great product for a great price/ thus I endorse it.
It’s versatile and really competitive in price. I use it for art, Molds and now in sculpture... it’s really fabulous. You can research it for yourself here:

You could try replacing the cans with a piece of plastic drain pipe in your desired diameter, Then you could use small spring clamps to secure the artwork to the pipe to keep it from springing back up,

Thank you for showing the frustrating parts as well. Helps us learn to figure things out and to know its okay to make mistakes or to not get a concept perfect every time. Although it did turn out perfect. :) Would love to try this if I ever finish my other half finished projects.

You could tape the cans together. And I bet some play doe stuck to each side of the can would prevent it from rolling/moving.

I've had this video on my "watch later" since you created it, impatiently waiting to get decent resin & the results. Finally, last night I had a test run on a tiny coaster. Oh my goodness, I am so excited to do something large and most certainly mixed media style. That's my go to but since paint pouring has been the rage, I have been wanting to do a collab with all 3 disciplines. Phew, so sorry to ramble on before even commenting about your STUNNING piece of art. That's the result of excitement to do my own.🤦‍♀️ You must keep creating these and please, please share your process/results. This video has HUGELY (cannot express how much) inspired me!!! Teal/turquoise and all tones of it is the most amazing colour (imho). The way in which you used the crushed glass and blowing it out with the straw? Incredible!!!😲😲 Truly! Thank you very much for sharing your video, I am off to see how you did the glass & any further videos you have made. I'll definitely be sharing this as well. Wow! Tyfs.C 👀👌🐾🐾

Hm... we don't have kmart anymore since about 10 years ago. I've been looking for such a large mat on Amazon but they either don't have sidewalls or they're much smaller. I have one about half this size I've been using for trays, but I've been unsuccessful finding this large of one on Amazon. I'll keep searching I guess. ;) Thanks for the video, love your work.

I love it!! But...I think I'd have gone for narrower tins, maybe like a Pringles carton or maybe a tube from Pilsbury dough or an inner tube of a kitchen roll. But that's just my thoughts. Definitely need blu tack to stop round tins/tubes from rolling, tho, or blocks. But a beautiful piece was made. Thank you for sharing with us.

Its a beautiful color design! Remove from the mold BEFORE you try to bend and wrap it. The mold isn't designed to wrap. Once you remove from the mold, lay it on contact paper, then wrap it around a vase or glass. I actually use bubble wrap because I can roll it up to whatever size I want.

This is Beautiful!! Im wondering tho because i have noticed with my projects, the heat might be helping it cure faster making it harder to work with and bend the way you want. I did a small experiment with 2 pieces and found the one i heated cured twice as fast then the one i left alone. I could be wrong with something as large as your wonderful piece but thought it may be worth a mention. I am definitely inspired by this and would love to try a small one!!

Yes the more resin in the creation and the deeper it is- the faster the curing process. It was also a hot heat and well above the temperature resin is best to use in. Still ... a very very satisfying process that’s inspired so many people.

It's very very pretty..Just a few tips for you I've learned. #1 the mold is just a little too thick is why you had trouble.#2 next time use tape (double stick) with your cans so you can get it to stay where you want it to#3 Really #1 it would have been advised to put a piece of Saran Wrap over it while you're trying to mold the shape. Because your gloves take away from the shine of the resin!!. Hope this helps.

Would it be possible to lay the resin out like you did on a cooking sheet and shortly after once its held its shape to drape it over an object with many contours? As if it was creating a mold. Or would applying a higher viscosity resin over the object work better?

I appreciate your talent Maggie but remember, preperation is the secret to success, you seem not aware of this importand aspect, of course the curing timing is critical but seeing you to use the moving unstable cans you lost control of the piece. Now you take the advise and go for the top!! Thank you

I did another resin sculpture pour experiment today - I used rose buds and tinted the resin with a vibrant pink and a sprinkling of glitter/ I’ll be posting it 2 days once I’ve popped the mold- that’s of it does pop out- cause I used plastic sheet layered over Aluminium foil - and it shrank and crinkled sigh I ran the heat gun over it to pop bubble 😂😂😊😊 hahaha live, learn and share the learnings I say :)

Laura’s Art Corner Laura Usher good point - the second piece I created - I used only one cup of resin- and it was more manuable (is that the word I’m looking for? ) yet it cured beautifully hard by the 24 hour mark. Resin is amazing - no wonder we all love it! 💖

Maluable.means pliable. The deeper the resin, the hotter it gets, which makes the resin cure faster. Also depends on the resin. Very beautiful

Hi Victoria/ I’m so so pleased with your enthusiasm 😊 once you get the supplies you’ll love doing this satisfying project. I got the mirrored glass from Ikea, however Amazon possibily have a substitute. MAD resin is Australian/ my favourite US resin brand is Stonecoat, however I’ve not made this kind of project with it - so I’m unsure about it’s hardness at complete cure. Have fun 😊💖🌷

@@ArtMaggikwithMaggie Thank you Maggie. I am excited. 2 questions. I bought a small set of Resin and Hardner that you mix together until I find one here in the US that is fast setting and doesn't yellow. I will find MAD Resin or one like it here in the US that artists like you like. Resin and the Hardner mixed together is Epoxy isn't it? The set I bought is suppose to be good, anyway but it's not much as far as amount.I thought I'd start small. My 2nd question is what size is your mat in inches? Does the bottom of the mat have to be shiny or should it be a matt finish? I never learned metrics in school eons ago in school. I hope they are teaching that in US schools now. Thank you Maggie!

If you had put butter knives as stops for your cans it may have been less of a struggle.

Are you aware of the health and safety precautions you should be undertaking whilst using epoxy resin? Did y ou know without using a respirator, you're damaging your lungs? Please let your watchers know about the dangers of inhaling it. My cousin only used it for a year and died of chemical burn on her lungs from using Epoxy Resin exposure. Just thought I'd give you the heads up. Beautiful work though. Stay safe 🌺

So sorry. I was thinking on experimenting with epoxy resin, good thing I saw your post. Epoxy probably needs to be handled with gloves, looks like it can get absorbed thru the skin. Please spread the word, there's sooo many channels about epoxy art. Thanks for the warning.

You’re so welcome. Resin is sticky icky stuff/ but the effects are glorious. I wish I could find extra long nitrile gloves.

Oh what a trial bending that resin! Lol!! Oh my! I kept wanting to yell at you to protect the front with plastic wrap and then put a couple of cans on the front of the piece to weight the middle down. But then my sense came and realized you wouldn’t have heard me! Haha Well I have to say, despite all the troubles, it turned out gorgeous!! ❤️💜❤️

New sub. :O)~ Very interesting video and resin art concept. Great technique. I love the camera angle Maggie. It must be warm out that keeps the resin so pliable. Thanks for posting this video. :O)~

There's a mirror paint out now that a youtuber tried. It worked great. Might I suggest getting clear stones or whatever and spraying a mirror finish on them yourself? Viola--no white or any other back but a less shiny mirror finish..... (the back is less shiny mirrorish finish than the front view through the clear item it's sprayed on)

That pretty interesting. How long do you wait before being able to pick it bn up and bend/handle it like that?
@ArtMaggikwithMaggie
@ArtMaggikwithMaggie 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on many things like the resin brand, the deity it’s poured and the weather This took 4 hours to be ready to bend - though I was expecting it to be ready on the 6 hour mark ...
