747-400 Landing In Snow at Heathrow Qantas HD

This flight was Delayed 3 days. Great Thanks to Qantas for doing all they can and putting us up in a 5 star hotel till the flight was ready. On the other hand my connecting flight operated by BA was another matter. When I arrived in London I found that the flight i was due on had been over booked and I had been took off it until a flight 6 hours later. When the time had come to board it was delayed another 2 hours,. I finally took off in a horrible, cramped jet2 737 that was being used by BA. The cabin crew did not have a clue what they were doing, we didnt even get a drink or anything to eat. The seats didn't recline and they had no padding. Very disappointed in British Airways.

wow, gotta love air travel. At least you made it to your destination. Qantas is a good airline, never flown on BA before but that is horrible what they did. Screw what others say, if they were in your situation, they wouldn't be as "appreciative" as they say you should've been. great video mate!

Very nice video, shame about the delay at Heathrow though, i stayed at Terminal 5 until late evening to meet my sister arriving from NY. This plane would have landed on the other runway before i arrived as i was at the taking off runway.

Nive vid mate. Thats a shame about BA. I flew them and QANTAS on a round the world trip this year and they were both fantastic, albiet a liitle cramped in the BA 747's. I guess it's the luck of the draw sometimes.

Amazing all that snow on the ground. I always knew London weather had a reputation being cold, dreary, miserable, and rainy (kind of like Seattle) most of the time, however always thought influence of the gulf stream at least kept the temperature in the UK warm enough ABOVE the freezing point.

From 8:50 you can see the inboard and center Kruger Flaps retract just as reverse thrust is applied. Outboard stays deployed. They retract because of the lineal path of air from reverse thrust which can severely damage the flap drive mechanisms. The outboard are not in the blast zone and as such stay deployed. You can only see this feature on 747's.

2010 was a really unusual year as we got a lot more snow than we normally do!! Amazing scenery. Also very nostalgic seeing Qantas 747-400 at Heathrow!!

2010 was a good year overall, especially if you like snow, so was 2011. And yes, alot more 747-400s back then then there is now, for example the Cathy pacific 747, really miss the sight of the 747

ba can be at two ends of the spectrum! I have flown a flight from dubai to heathrow being 7 hours and the seat wouldnt recline. slightly annoying when your a family! (777) however i flew on a 744 to NY in january and the plane, albeit 22 years old was great and the crew were amazing!! got to sit in the cockpit before flight and was a delightful trip. Afraid BA can be great and can be aweful. Its played on luck!

Qatar Airways is by far the best airline i have flown with! They are so helpful and so so so organised. Shame about the Doha airport, it doesn't do them justice. I hope they move to the new state of the art airport they are building. British airways can be a joke and bloody expensive. I especially love flying on the B777. Very spacious and comfortable. Great feeling. mmm

@N330AA yeah....sort of correct. The Qantas 380 is not at capacity a fair bit of the time. The last news report of a Qantas 380 flying from Singapore that diverted to Adelaide on its way to Melbourne due low fuel had 249 people on board. That is idiotic.

Planning in advance for contingency B and C are a must....most reputable carriers and /or credit card companies will refund most of your money back for unrestricted flights unsatisfactory service/product.Buy more than one ticket(different carrier to the same place) if you'd had issues with some carriers Taking the Dallas Qantas flight soon, at least I won't have to deal with LAX or SFO. And yes, back-up flight plans are already in place.

Over booking might be legal but that doesn't make it right. I pay for a seat ,not a lottery ticket and if I show up within time limits I would be angry to find they had also sold that seat to someone else. I agree though , that it's sensible to turn up early but if everyone turns up early they are still not all going to get on the aircraft.

Haven't worked out why so many Aussies go to the UK and live in that cold, expensive place? Qantas are a great Airline but are slowly being over run by the likes of Etihad / Emirates. As for flights to the USA I cannot understand why Qantas did not get the 777. Its such a brilliant aircraft to fly on. V Australia are the pick for me going there. yeah, and Boeing Lockheed, and Douglas did not do it then because Bypass jets had not proven their reliability yet then.Bigger jets like the 747,L-1011, DC10 had engine durability and reliability issues then. ETOPS did not come along until the 80's where the 767 finally proved a twin engine could go long distances over oceans. It would have been pointless for the 3 to make a medium width wide-body then...it was not cost effective.

how come it delayed for 3 days? But long haul flight is pretty sucks. Last time I use Malaysia Airlines from CGD and when the plane was about to pushed back, the aircraft lost the power (engine failure), no aircon etc so the cabin crew decided to open all the door

It's mainly the automation issue and the issue that Airbus dumps planes below cost...and that includes other things like throwing spare engines in for "free". Makes it difficult for Embraer and Boeing to compete with a Multi-Government business that will do anything to sell planes...and then make up the fuzzy number profits by just demanding more from the taxpayers that front this business to begin with.

Dude,some bad CEOs come and go,that's life.But Boeing got it's kick start into aviation/creating advances in aerospace long before Uncle Sam started handling out Postal and Defense contracts.The very plane shown in the video almost did not happen,it was R/Dd and built with private investment,like many other planes.Only till recently when Boeing used those profits to buy MD,before then Boeing had few Defense contracts..instead getting into a $fist match with Lockheed,Airbus, MD for many years.

If everyone showed up on time (way early) the airlines would not overbook. The fact is you show up early, you are going to get a seat guaranteed.The self absorbed lazy types always show up 5minutes before boarding/takeoff and expect the world to operate on their schedule. if you look at the terms and conditions for any airline they fully disclose flights are overbooked. With the price of Jet A, some carriers operate on very thin margins. I have never lost a flight because I show up way early.

Pretty much, I detest the Airbus business model and the fact they copy-cat everything Boeing does.If Boeing stamped a drag inducing nose or hood Corporate bling-ornament on their planes, Airbus would follow.Both those carriers are also State supported, but Singapore has some damn good service when all the flight attendents are not on their cycle.

And the taxpayers unwilling of Australia paid to put you up in a hotel. Like most government run businesses, spending tax dollars is easy. Your BA flight? You should have asked what type of aircraft they would be flying and change it if so desired.I refuse to fly Airbus and most airlines with a diverse fleet will make accommodations to their customers. Actually, both airlines you flew on were "welfare airlines", they get State money to stay in business, because they are not managed well.
