I wish I had parents like Lee's 😭 They had such a fierce love to go to the lengths they did to make sure their son's death was not meaningless. Airlines only care about safety when enough blood is spilled, but that was unacceptable to them, as it rightfully effing should be. It blows my mind that even today faults found lots of times are not fixed because they can't justify the costs. Only when enough people die. Really sobering to me.

Lee's parents made a difference for others even though their son was lost forever. Their determination with no hint of anger, hatred, or bitterness sets them above most humankind. They became advocates and philanthropists. They greatly contributed to the safety of air travel for everyone. I hope that they've been able to continue to find happiness, purpose, and some form of peace and comfort for the rest of their lives.

no its alright sometimes because of sudden disrupted airflow a engine surge can happen which means compressor stall (insufficient airflow being confined) that would of been mixed with swirled with fuel then ignited is now being expulsed in the opposite way basically where the vanes and stators were not designed for that and there would be uncontained combustible gasses and very hot air within the core it would have a blue/slight purplish glow then when leaving the exhaust cone it would be orange as it cools down

inspirational man is Mr Campbell , the sort of man everyone wants as a dad , ive watched this episode many times and im always blown away by him , his son would be so proud , he took on Boeing and the NTSB and won , rather disappointed in Ron Schleede , as i've watched all these episiooodes of Mayday and air crash inv Schleede and Greig Feith seem to be or appear to be the advocates for the truth, how you can put a human on a plane and just cross your fingers is beyond me, surely cheaper to make the repsir to your fleet than risk going bankrupt cause 300 ppl have sadly died

Detailed and stunning outcome, with all credit to the Lee's and a lesson not to trust industry, the FAA and the NTSB. The only thing I would add on this story is that, no real credit was given in the film to the pilots and crew for getting this plane down as they did.

I find it somewhat funny that the cabin crew knew there had been an explosion, explosive decompression and the the wall and some seats are missing, but not the engine problems. The cockpit crew knew the engines were bad, there was no O2 and they couldnt hold altitude, but didnt know about the explosion. Seems like they should train the head cabin crew member to recognize various issues that the cockpit couldnt know about (big hole in airplane, for example) and initiate contact with the cockpit to make sure they have the facts.

I used to work in a security job surrounding some planes and one of them was Lufthansa 747. Incredible plane and airline but out of the other planes, it was the one with the most issues. One day that thing’s cargo doors refused to open when it arrived in which the mechanics forced open. By the time it was ready to leave, the mechanics could NOT get it to close and had to force it shut. That plane flew many times after that and continues to. There was a dog in the cargo hold that day too. Boeing planes are sketchy and mostly all I’ve seen are faulty in some way.

If I could go back in time and warn Boeing that their design was prone to failure, I would. This was not the only incident with this cargo door design. Fixing it would have saved so many lives. Honestly, I don't know why they didn't make the latches more like a commercial safe, with rods that engage into holes in the frame all around. Then even if one rod fails, the other rods would hold it in place.
@natehill8069
@natehill8069 6 ай бұрын
Safes dont need to hold air pressure. You need a clamping action to force the door against the gasket to retain pressurization. Straight rods would not do that.

its a design flaw and booing knew about it i can talk about this a little since I'm a engineering student (manufacturing) not defending boing the implement change on a large scale is a very costly expense for the entire product and service but this is a critical part of a of the cargo door system in which what should of been done was to fixed immediately as it could pose structural catastrophic failure. The Engineers made a fault but knew about it which was good but is the worst part is and time and time again as this is not exclusive to aviation other industries have chosen the economic side rather than the safety impacts at the end of the day it is the guys and girls in suits that are above the engineers. The engineers will and can give the accosted costs to implement change but the final say is in the financing department there I would assume is the thought of the time "if it works it works" but all they did was tell airlines it could fail in this way x y z etc... basically shift responsibility

In the late 1800s so many railroad workers lost fingers coupling cars that you could tell how many years experience a man had by how few fingers they had left. Then when they got below 4 or 5 they were fired cause they couldnt do the job anymore. The Janney automatic coupler completely solved the problem, but railroads had to be forced to use them cause they cost several hundred dollars per car (which would be thousands today, but still...) and replacing someone cost nothing.

DISAPPOINTED in the NTSB as their report DEMONSTRATED that the they took the airline and Boeing's side. Shameful-so much for the integrity of the NTSB! Most people don't have the resources to do what the Campbell's did. Too bad the Campbell's aren't in charge of safety, etc. at Boeing. So many of our corporations would rather pay out than fix. There's no greater pain than the loss of a child. May your son rest in peace. I'm sure he proud of how long you fought for the truth.❤🙏🏻 I hope you write a book and expose them.
