One of the first prolific scorers in NBA history, Bob Pettit was first to reach the 20,000-point mark en route to an MVP award, the 1958 NBA title and four All-Star MVPs during his 11-year career.

I wish the younger generation would learn to embrace these founding fathers of the NBA. The disrespect is unreal. When I began getting into basketball history in the early 90's I couldn't just get in front of a computer and look up these players. I bought a basketball almanac and checked out books on basketball history to look up players beyond Magic, Michael and Larry. It pains me that players today disregard players like Mr Pettit who blazed trails for them.

bro its not that deep, ik what you mean, but its not our fault u couldn't look it up then, sorry

Yea the new generation is disrespectful but the disrespect goes both ways. Old heads say the players today are not as good or would not last in the older generation.

@@YNGSprkzy that's bull cuz you could read books on these goats and they had Vhs tapes of players highlights and they had a full channel called ESPN classic in the 1990s. I know cuz I started my bball history in the ,1980s

Well study the eras. I have. Today's players have big advantages 3pt shot that creates more spacing Defensive 3 second rule that makes it easier to score on a layup and postups Flagrent foul ejections makes it harder to play defense. So easier to score. Rule change of allowing to dribble with side of ball. Makes it easier to dribble faster. Clear landing path for shooters. Sure it protects them from injuries but it also makes it easier to score. So today its easier to score because of all these rule changes. 90%+ of young people don't know about this. I am young myself. 34 yrs old. Players of old got more injuries and got punched and elbowed. Wilt got his haw broken from a punch. Today that player would have been kicked out for rest of the season. Back then get ejected and players the next game.

Bob Pettit's skills and style would have fit in well in the 80's and 90's.

Back in the late 90s I recall seeing Bob Petit eating lunch at the food court next to the Superdome on many occasions with some of the younger associates of the New Orleans Investment firm he had founded after he had completed his NBA career. He seemed so humble and was obviously a highly respected mentor to the young people who worked for him.. Besides being a all time NBA great, he is obviously a true gentleman,

He was a legend.. he was Karl Malone before Karl Malone. Just big and strong and mobile. Could shoot a good mid range. Played his role perfectly

An excellent player that worked year round and a better person than he was a player. I have never heard anyone speak badly of him.

Pettit was SO much more advanced and modern than Schayes. Their games look three generations apart. But it looks like he could have played in the seventies forward on. Schayes, no way. I bring up Dolph because he was the first Power Forward of note. Then Bob. But Pettit seems FAR more modern. He makes Schayes look prehistoric.

Very few people can control their upper and lower bodies enough to develop a "high percentage" jump shot! Bob Pettit and Jerry West could! Killer shot if you can REALLY do it!
