Mine was frozen bad, tried a puller, tried your method which was good, but still would not budge. I went back to my old bag of tricks that I used on other things like blower wheels and blower motors. The secret is to first knock it on further(which brakes it loose) then take it off. Take a piece of 3/4" ridged pipe(black Iron or galvanized) 2 or 3 feet long. It will fit over the shaft on the outside of the wheel. Hit it hard with a sledge and knock it in an 1/8 of an inch. That's it, not froze anymore, now use a puller or your method and it comes right off. Hope this helps someone with a really hard one to get off.

Mine was super seized. I ended up spraying PB blaster every day twice a day for a week. I ended up tipping the tractor so the affected wheel was higher than the other side and left it propped up like that until Two weeks were up…this helped the penetrating oil deep further down the shaft with the aid of gravity. I ended up using a harmonic balancer puller to break it free without the aid of heating with a torch.

So I did not know what I was getting into until I started pulling and hammering at the tires. They would not come off. I blasted it with WD40 and nothing. I ran into your video and tried the heating trick but with a less tame propane torch. One wheel came off easily the other was was stubborn a a mule, but it gave away after some muscle with a jack hammer. keeping those videos coming I am sure there are a bunch of us out there with similar problems. thanks, save my Sunday afternoon. There are holes already in the rim to use a puller with. Heat the hub, quench with cold water and use the puller. If it doesn't move then use an air impact chisel with a flat end bit on the end of the puller. Always worked for me. Then put never seize on the axle when reassembling. Won't have a problem next time wheel has to come off. And, yes, you're right about possibly causing damage by beating on it with a big hammer.

John Kohler I had one of those old 3009 Honda riders years ago, good mower but mine smoked bad on startup so I sold it while it was still running. Heat is the best option for removing stuck wheels, a propane torch should be enough to get it plenty hot. You might even try quenching the heat afterwards with cold water to make the axle contract a bit but don't get it on the rim. Heat expands Cold retracts.

Mine was given me...in bad repair. I built a puller that immediately bent the 3/8" ready bolt that was thru the wheel puller holes. Your video was the first one I watched. Ive fought that cotton-picking thing for 3 days! My intentiin is to remove all the wheels and have them all foam-filled, along with my wheel-barrow wheel and the garden 2 wheel buggy. That way they will never go flat nor wear out...at least in my lifetime! Tomarrow, I'll take the torch out there and throw the meat...heat to it...😜! What kind of spray did you say you use? Reckon would WD40 work or Kroil? Thanks for your video. You sound like a fun fellow to know...you've got a good since of humor...not glum like a lot of folks that are good mechanics. Thanks
@76hotrodF2506 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story. I am not a fan of the pullers for that reason exactly. I used PB Blaster, its a penatrator, Kroil might work though. Just be careful to not overheat the rim and warp it and when swinging blows just use good taps, too hard and you can break the snap ring holding in the axle and then send it flying out of the transaxle. Oh, and yeah I try to bring a little humor in my videos, so many make really boring cut and dry videos.

But instead of the wheel coming off the axel, the axel decided to pull out of the gearbox with the tire still stuck. I am pretty sure I can get the tire off the axel now by using my bearing press, but I don know if I have what it takes to mess with repairing a gearbox and trans-axle. I may be beyond my skill level now. Am I screwed? Or no big deal?
@76hotrodF2502 жыл бұрын
It unfortunately happens sometimes. Its really not to difficult to fix. Remove trans, remove the pulley from the top. Then remove the bolts holding trans together. Carefully pry the top off, sometimes they just pop off easy. Make sure to not rotate the trans in any way as you remove the top as it can cause parts to slide out of the grooves holding them in. Your axles are only held in with a retaining clip or 2. Some people refer to these as C-clips or E-clips. Just place your axle back into place with new clip(s) with gear on end of axle. Then just reverse order put it back together. There are videos online on how to do this. I don't have any up myself as I never made videos if it was already done many times. Best of luck.
