She was healthy enough to take part in protests that caused enormous disruption for people going about their legitimate business who missed appointments, interviews and possibly important medical appointments. She gave no consideration for that or the possible legal consequences and she’s now squealing about how unfair it all is. She has not served her sentence, that is why she is being recalled to prison. If you don’t want to do the time, don’t do the crime. At her age, she still doesn’t seem to have grown up enough to consider consequences before making a decision.

@ Maybe her solicitors are able to appeal the sentence and get it reduced to time served, but the takeaway from this case is that at 75, no one is young enough to take the sort of direct action that an 18 year old student activist would do if it means suffering the harsh conditions of life behind bars. It’s also a shame that Just Stop Oil wasn’t as concerned about the welfare of its members as it was about the welfare of this planet.

Pretty much all prisoners are are released on license after serving 50% of their sentence in prison unless the judge specifically rules otherwise during sentencing. This was not early release. This is how the UK justice system works.

If others are being released early (rightly or wrongly) and she meets the criteria but they can’t find a way to monitor her then that is simply not fair ( and smacks of a certain lack of competence and forethought. Oh there have been times in my life if I was in that queue I would have died in the back of that ambulance, I wouldn't have disagreed with them either and no offence but on the motorway the Ambulance would use the hard shoulder on blues and I can tell you that 77 year old wouldn't have stopped it, likely none of the protesters would because they CARE, that's the difference some people care about more than themselves and their immediate future.

It's a traffic jam. Have you ever driven on a UK road? Or been on a train? Get a grip. People miss appointments all the time because of incompetence or extreme weather events disrupting travel networks. You don't see the people responsible for those going to prison.

Sorry but the "disruption for an hour" is multiplied by tens of thousands of people who were delayed for an hour each. So 100,000 hours could be the total delay. They were handled with kid gloves and were given adequate warning that it would not be tolerated.

The "time" in this case, was a home curfew. Which she was perfectly capable of "doing", and accepting of. Relocating her to prison is age discrimination.

If they had been locked up these protestors from day 1 this would never have happened. But for the first year they let them off scot free (until the public got sick of it and started to batter them, only then did plod finally decide better do something about it). So others , including this old woman had jumped on the bandwagon, thought ti would be a nice day out with their like minded chums disrupting traffic with no consequences and have a laugh at the commuters stuck in traffic, the ambulances trying to get to hospital, the job applicants missing interviews.
