This video explains which lock/key I bought after learning more about locks and "easy to pick" key ways on cheap locks. I feel the ABLOY 300 is a good balance between affordable and hard for knuckleheads to pick.
When I say use a good lock to help prevent knuckleheads like me from picking your lock, I do not mean that I would ever pick a lock with the intention of breaking in to something which is not mine. I am not a thief.
I mean buy a good lock so some knucklehead who has only been picking locks for 2 days, someone with no talent for picking lock can not easily pick your lock. Make it hard on them. Buy a good lock.
I am surprised how easy cheap MASTER locks are to pick. If you only want to spend $5-$15.00 on your lock you might as well secure the hasp with a shoestring. Watch my first video and see how any dumbhead with lock picking tools can pick a MASTER lock too easily.
If your stuff is worth locking up, then it is worth paying $50-$100 for a great quality lock. Of course you can pay a lot more, but at that point the thieves (IF they are really motivated ) will find another weak point in your security.
I suggest buying a boring looking (like the ABLOY 330) lock (no sense getting a too fancy looking lock) (or it may actually attract attention) great quality lock to slow down thieves.
Find the balance between effectiveness and a price you can afford. I don't think spending $200.00 on a lock is a good idea... it could actually advertise you have really good stuff you are locking up. Of course I could be wrong and there is a good case for a $500.00 padlock...but if you buy that make sure the rest of the enclosed structure is equally as secure.
Mainly what you want is hard to pick lock so if they can not pick it and they break in cutting/destroying the lock at least you will be able to tell.
With easy to pick locks someone could be coming and going, slowly stealing your stuff and you may not even realize it.
The bottom line is if someone wants to steal your stuff they are going to break in and steal it when you are not there and watching... your objective is to make it harder for them. Slow them down. Hopefully they will move on to easy pickings.
Make your stuff look hard and time consuming to break in to.
Make someone elses stuff look easier to break in to than yours.
Make someone elses car look easier to steal than yours.
I think the ABLOY 300 is a good balance. I will mention I am not affiliated with ABLOY in any way, they do not pay me in any way... no one pays me in any way (except compliments) for me to make and post videos.
I make and post videos to help people out and share information I would like to have known long ago.
PS
I will mention how damned disappointed I am with MASTER lock company. It is a damned shame they did not make a better effort to become what companies like ABLOY, ABUS, ASSA and MEDECO became.
MASTER lock company was in the lock game in the 1800s. THEY WERE THERE EARLY!!! They should have stayed in front of the pack, but instead they became an embarrassment. MASTER LOCK company may have a profitable business model but their products are crap.
MASTER LOCK company lies to people when they claim good locks can cost $10-20.... but they sell a lot of them... and anyone with an (easy to buy) $10.00 lock picking set can pick a crappy MASTER lock.
I dare MASTER lock (or anyone) to be mad at me for posting the truth about their crappy locks. It would be funny to see them not want make better locks but then get mad if/when someone shows/proves how ineffective their lock are.
FIX YOURSELF MASTER LOCK!!! MAKE BETTER LOCKS!! DO BETTER!!!
