Any time you do work on your own car/truck and it's successful, Richard Petty would be proud. Hope it works out for the best, curious about what was wrong with the 383, that's just about as bullet proof engine as ever built. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

Seems like it always takes a little hammering, grinding and maybe welding to do even a "bolt in" swap. You'd think if it had a 383 put in it already a 440 would just bolt in. Never fails. Low compression ain't really a bad thing, especially if you're going to drive it much. Yeah, you loose a bit of efficiency, but premium gas costs about a buck a gallon more too. I'll probably regret building the 318 for my 68 D200 with a little over 9.7 compression when it's all done. Spent a lot of time porting a set of 315 heads upgraded with 1.60-1.88 valves for it, but who knows, might be swapping on some 360 heads later to drop compression. We'll see what happens.

looks great and sounds healthy Tim. One thing I must say is, the chain and the radical angle of it puts tremendous strain on the bolts and the chain itself. Anything less than a 45 degree angle starts putting much more tension on the rigging. I get you're trying not to have to pull the hood. In my line of former work I've seen several failures and one injury because of this situ. Keep up the good work!

Nice! Even a stock 440 will make the ol' girl scat. It sounds good and I like the oil pressure. 75# is a good number. That old transmission shot craps because of the lack of kickdown. I have seen that before.

I had a 1975 plymouth fury sport 2 door. I replaced the 400 with a 440. Kept it low compression and added nitrous oxide kit. Was a fun car. Added 295 mags looked not bad.

That was a good budget rescue on this car. That 440 has to be better than the 400 they offered in the Cordobas. The police cars with 440s were low compression and they did pretty good

Curious why you’re running with the torquer single plane intake with all the other stock components? Sounds good. Did the previous owner use a big block k member?
@318willrun
@318willrun Жыл бұрын
I put the torker on just because I had it. I know, a single plain doesn't always play nice with a small cam/low compression engine. As for the K frame, not sure, but I'd bet they used the small block K frame

I want to see a postmortem on the 383 and the inside of the 727 pan....the rest is just too easy to do swapping engines in a late b body is just fun to me.... Now dropping a transmission in an 88 cougar to fix a convertor seal leak now that's a nightmare....and coming up on my channel...but not many will even care much or learn anything.

I have a fresh rebuilt 66 383 and it has flat top pistons with a new purple stripe cam and 346 fresh rebuilt heads and it also came with headers and a single plane edelbrock torquer intake and it’s a 2 barrel block so it’s not high performance so could you recommend if I should run it like it is or buy a set of KB400 dome pistons and turn it into a HP 383?? Im not going to race it but I do enjoy getting pulled back in the seat now and then.

hello nice video , i have a 1978 318 and i did a cylinder pressure test and all 8 cylindres are at 125 psi ....is that a normal number , the reason why i ask is because i saw a friend of mine do a pressure test on his 440 which was just rebuilt and his engine had 190 psi
@318willrun
@318willrun Жыл бұрын
125 across all 8 on a 318 would be considered "normal". Your friends 440 may have closed chamber heads, high compression pistons among other things that would give him more cranking psi

I have a buddy who wants to trade me a 77 New-Yorker 440 4bbl dual exhaust. I know it's a gaz guzzler, i have a 66 starchief executive 389ci 4bbl that makes 16 mpg when i drive it like a egg under my foot with little changes here and there. Air conditionner delete (+10%) so they say. What is the best MPG i could acheive with a small budget. Google says between 10-+5? Beside taking few extra weight off and good engine setting. What else do you suggest? I know it still gonna stay a 440! Maybe ill swap the engine with my dodge 23' motorhome wich have a 1971 318-3 swap during it's life, wich does 15-16mgp at 55mph.
@318willrun
@318willrun Жыл бұрын
That did best on gas with a Thermoquad. 17 mpg on the highway is very common if tuned right. Around town they will suffer due to weight of the vehicle
