'79 MGB "Green Phoenix" has a few more surprises for us

The Green Phoenix, our 1979 MGB that we saved from going to the junkyard gives us a few more surprises that will make it more difficult to get it on the road in time to get it to the spring British Car Day, our only local all British car show on May 21st

The Green Phoenix has some serious issues. The positive side is that the main and important areas of the car will be all new.

These are pretty typical for British cars. The fusing is not adequate and the full load for high amperage circuits will burn out wires over time. You can buy new harnesses with additional fuses and relays added in, or you can buy OEM style harnesses and add relays and fuses as you see fit. British wiring out of Bally PA sells the latter. Happily, everything in my 79 is working! But I've always wanted to replace the wiring harness because it is just such a visual mess in the engine compartment. Lots of unattached wires and splicing just hanging about. Guessing it's not a simple job for the amateur!?

It’s not a simple job. While not really hard, you need to know how to read the wiring diagram. The connector availability changes all the time, so sometimes you have to swap in some of your old connectors ( with new pins they usually supply) and remove the dashboard. I usually allow 10-12 hrs to do it

The source of your electrical problems was most likely the fuel pump once it overloads more amps draw. And the system is hot when the ignition is on, thus the fuel and ignition are white cables.leading to the system problems
