Man, South Shore Line trains are something else! I love them. I’m just here to be another person who recognizes the idiocy of the person in the black car. That train was traveling over 70MPH. It would’ve taken less than 30 seconds for the train to pass and less than a minute from them to wait it out. Who cares how far away it is, the bars are down for a reason!

The old Pullman-Standard orange and maroon cars did have an old fashioned trolley- like roar characteristic of old time Interurbans and CTA's 4000 Series L cars. The same can be said of the old dark GREEN IC PULLMAN-STANDARD CARS BUILT IN 1926-1929 also the same sounding traction roar like the old South Shore cars and CTA 4000s L cars. The horn on the old dark green IC cars also sounds similar to the whistles of the 4000 Series L cars and wooden L cars.

@@albertcarello7133 The Big Orange cars, like their prewar counterparts, had spur-cut bull and pinion gears, which resulted in a musical pitch that varied depending on how fast the train was going.

If these were doing 79mph then im guessing this was Non Cab Signal Territory, the FRA limits train to 79mph without Cab's but if the train is limited to 80mph, its not to much of a difference.

@JLJ061 10 seconds before the horn and 20 seconds before the train ... but the train was pass the crossing only seconds later. Indiana law DOES NOT give volunteers permission to break the law on the way to an emergency. If the timing was a little different there would have been two emergencies to respond to ... which would not have helped whomever he thought he was rushing to "save". Lost in the moment and not thinking of the big picture.

I can't figure out why American railroads don't use two gates to completely block anyone from going around the single gate.
@hifijohn4 жыл бұрын
@@brushcreek42 the reason is that in crossings that have many tracks a car can get trapped.
@brushcreek424 жыл бұрын
@@hifijohn If you look at train videos on KZbin of Europe and Japan, they almost all have double gates. Some of the light rail trains in the US also have double gates. If someone did get trapped they could floor it and crash thru the gates.

@@brushcreek42 That's true and I think many gates in the US are now made to swing away, but not all drivers know that.once the lights start to flash youre suppose to stop, its equivalent to a stop light, but trains in the us are very long not the very fast 30 car stuff you see in europe in the US trains are usually over 150 cars and can go slow, even a fast train doesn't take long but when youre in a hurry even waiting a few minutes for train seems to take forever.
