I agree 100%. I have the 6800xt and man o man it's crushing it. Have amazing FPS. I had my finger on the trigger for the new AMD card but not anymore. Not worth it. I get similar results with out RT and other useless feature that I don't need. Just OC the card properly and off I go.

I got a 6600. It is stable. But now a generation old. So I guess the AMD cards will be better when Nvidia releases their next generation. Not really acceptable. We needed them to be better. They are not. Nor did they lower prices far enough to justify dealing with driver issues for the first year and a half.

For example my 6900XT is getting over 22k graphics score in Time Spy. That's 3090 Ti numbers. Currently you can buy a 6950XT for $750-900. That's $300-$400 cheaper than a new 3090 Ti.

I don't normally care about small power draw differences, but towards the end of video there was discussion on 300-400W to 600W difference. That is already large enough to have a monetary effect over the life time of the GPU in question.

Man I've been cranking on my ASRock 6900XT OCF recently, its one of the XTXH chips and this thing is a monster. I've got it running consistently at ~2750mhz with only 1100mv to keep the hotspot temp down (the board will go up to 1250mv) and it beats the 3090ti I had in everything except RT. Not bad for a $479 purchase since I had a gift card I had to use.

I have an Intel/AMD rig and they both work together. i9-10900k OC'd to 5.3Ghz and overclock settings on my 7900XTX XFX Merc10 is allot different than yours. I overclock to 3250Mhz & +5 Power with a few other settings. I've ran many tests overclocking and benchmarking. I run the new LG 45" Ultragear 3440x1440 monitor that just came out and on the new MW2 I get 240FPS and that's the max the monitor can take. For my setup I can't see spending another $700 on a 4090 when my monitor is already at the cap with the 7900xtx.... Also what I have found during benchmark testing that when people get a AMD card they immediately go for +15 on Power. You would think it would help but it doesn't. The cards actually produce better benchmarks at a +5% Power setting.

I don't know... He dodged the gpu load between 7900xtx and 4090 at the warzone, later claiming that 4090 is FASTER than 7900xtx in WARZONE, which is not true. In his disclaimer about warzone performance he said that "other techtubers are testing with weak cpu, that's why amd is better in this title", even though he had a cpu bound scenario with both of these cards and same framerate. He also didn't show other settings in warzone to increase gpu load, this may show his bias toward amd. Either way, his benchmarks showing the limits of gpus are interesting.

If you play at 1440p, just buy a 3080/3090 and you are golden. The comparaison you need is Warzone 2 at 4K Low vs high vs ultra between the next gen cards. The rest is irrelevant. Go with previous gen if you play 1080p/1440p.

Great video. Good analysis on the few instances where limited benchmarks have been touted about the 7900XTX beating the 4090. I have a new build with an i9-13900K so this info is helpful. If you don't have enough CPU to drive the 4090, you may not fully benefit from a 4090 and maybe RADEON is a better option for you.

Why I should push a GPU always to the maximum? I use my 4090 only up to 115 FPS because I use an OLED C1 with 120Hz. It doesn't make any sense to go above 117 FPS on 120Hz! Plus the 4090 runs absolutely efficient when max undervolted with 0.875mv in my case. It's incredible but the consumption is no more than 250 watts in most games and I even put DLSS on top of available to have the ultimate efficiency!

Problem with the 7900XTX here in Canada is that only the reference model with a 2x8pin connector is about 1370-1450. But any custom cooler from AMD partners is 1600+. Once they hit that area of 1600+ you start tripping on the 4080 and even 4090 in terms of value.

24:40 = 7900XTX is meant to compete with the 4080, not the 4090, and it does wonderfully (unless you turn on RT). And scammed in the last gen? 15 seconds earlier you showed that the 6900XT was +290 fps, while 3090Ti was struggling to get past 230. Yes, nVidia is faster in the ultra high end, but it not the best bang per buck.

There are clearly some things going on with the 7900XTX card used. Two 8-pin power connectors may match the reference model, but when there are cards with three of those 8-pin power connectors, that's worth checking those other cards out, just to see if they give different results. Remember those 4090 cards with the 600W limit vs. the ones with a lower limit. Gotham Knights...if the 6900XT has the same performance as the 7900XTX, that's the sort of thing that screams there is a problem with the game that is limiting performance, or a driver issue, or SOMETHING. Without saying that, it's a sign that the game is coded so the GPU(all of them) aren't really being used very well. The same way that Cyberpunk 2077 can be pointed out for its clear NVIDIA bias for optimizations and such, Gotham Knights just isn't making effective use of GPU resources. Now, another thing to mention, anyone who has ANY familiarity with AMD cards over the past six+ years would know that Radeon Software reports GPU power, not total board power. So, talking about how the reported power draw is wrong just shows a limited experience with AMD video cards. And then, the conclusions...old products will be cheaper than new products, so you look at things like prices at release, and leave the, "buyers guide" comments as a secondary thing. Performance summary: Radeon 7900XTX is competing very well vs. the RTX 4080, beating it in most places, and only select titles and situations give the edge to the 4080. That's a pretty big change from Radeon 6900XT vs. the RTX 3080 and 3090 where AMD was further behind. If you want a 3090 and find it cheaper, then go for it today, but then, the 4080 doesn't make a lot of sense for you. If you aren't a fan of NVIDIA, then the Radeon 7900XTX is now in that realm where you can't say it is behind the 4080 outside of select situations. Other things that need to be reviewed that have not been: Since NVIDIA is known to work best on the fastest CPUs, test these video cards on somewhat slower CPUs. Go back to Zen2 or Zen3 based Ryzen, even the 5800X3D, and see how well the 7900XTX does vs. the NVIDIA cards, because the advantage that NVIDIA has will shrink. Go back to a 9900k, and see what happens in the comparisons as well. If your CPU is limiting GPU performance, that's something that shouldn't be ignored, and there are still a LOT of people out there with a CPU from 4-5 years ago.

I got an RTX 4080 because here in Eastern EU the RTX 4090 is NOT 1500 euros but the cheapest is 2200 euro while the RTX 4080 can be found at 1200 euro and it's still a huge upgrade. While AMD really dropped the ball with the driver problems the 7900 series has,not even mentioning that the 7900XTX here is more expensive than an RTX 4080.

Awesome work. The Warzone part was very eye opening. It really shows how consistent and effortless the 4090 runs those consistent frames with a rather static 82% usage. That even leaves room to use NVENC with a lighter hit. Something the 4080 definitely wouldn't be able to do in that 98-99% situation.

Fury was in spitting distance of 980ti Vega 64 traded blows with 1080ti 6900xt trades blows with 3090 6950xt trades blows with 3090ti 7900xtx was said to trade blows with 4080 There's a rumor that another card will be revealed at CES that will compete with 4090. We'll have to see. But to say they haven't been competing in the top end for 10 years is absurd.

And that's a water cooled Vega versus a founders edition 1080. that said a GTX 1080ti is about 35% faster than a 1080 ^^ so a Vega64 never was and never will be on par with a 1080ti.

Power supply losses increase at higher draw, and other internal components are going to start pulling a bit more power as well when you run a bench. So taking idle power draw from the wall and subtracting that from the loaded power draw isn’t going to be very accurate. Also, some monitoring utilities will show total board power and others only GPU die power. Die power will be lower than total board power.

i just read that you didnt use SAM for you benchmarks since you use INTEL...using rebar for both systems are essential they are apart of the GPU's technology. if NVIDIA and rebar doesnt equate to AMD with SAM that makes a huge difference...i understand that using an INTEL cpu will lower performance for AMD, but that technology is years ahead in AMD's favor, and for cyberpunk it goes from 30fps to 60fps and if you try to say SAM isnt a fair comparison, it is...thats the same as saying Ray Tracing shouldnt be compared for AMD and NVIDIA, or reflex shouldnt be on while testing NVIDIA. or like we cant compare FSR to DLSS...its all apart of the system and makes a difference in deciding which to buy.

I can understand buying the 7900xtx if you on. A udget and you need to upgrade you card. I can understand buying the 4080 if you like ray tracing and a little bit more power in some games. What I can’t understand is spending 1700-1800 MSRP on a 4090. Unless you use the system for more than just gaming I don’t feel like spending upwards of 3k-4K for a gaming pc that’s going to put of date 4-6 years from now. Financially speaking, imo, you shouldn’t be spending more than 2-2.5k on a strictly gaming pc. Having a few more frames and raytracing isn’t going to change you gaming experience enough to justify dropping upwards of 4k on a PC.

Meh, seems biased to me. Recommending the 3090ti over the new Amd ones? Even though he mentioned the 3090ti consumed more power. Then not recommending the new Amd ones because supposedly their power draw makes them 2 generations behind lovelace? Ampere did not have better power efficiency than rdna2, did that make ampere 1-2 generations behind rdna2? I don't think so. Likewise I never like when channels use used prices to compare to new cards, generally someone who buys used will probably always buy used, and someone new would buy new. Like me, I would never consider used unless it was around 75% off from current new retail price. So saying 3090ti is better because of used prices is meaningless to me because I would never buy it. Some pretty far out there conclusions. Channel name alone, "frame chasers," already indicates bias, bias towards frame chasing or maximum frames, which would translate to having a bias towards the 4090. And a bias for frames, over pricing or anything else. Hey, I didn't choose the name, could have been price chasers. Then maybe I would think differently.

That‘s a well-rounded review confirming my suspicions. 4080 and 7900 XTX are decent „mid-range“ but overpriced products compared to last gen parts atm and 7900 XTX is also poor performance/watt compared to the 4090. The 4090 is coming in at MSRP more frequently now so as soon as I got the money available I‘m gonna get one after my recent CPU upgrade and that thing is gonna ray trace the shit out of Cyberpunk etc. playing on my 4K 120 Hz TV. Ehhhh I am no fan boy of ether company. And i am not happy with what AMD released. Nor with the lies they told about RDNA 3. But with all of that said. (i doubt it would have changed the results of the benchmark much at all. But Did he undervolt the AMD card. That would have cut the power draw down a little bit. So to say he was unbias is nearly as misleading as AMD was about RDNA 3. And yes Nvidia hit a homerun with the 4090.

If that overclock setting during the power draw test was what was used for the benchmarks, you didnt overclock the 7900xtx optimally. Rdna3 overclocks more the lower the voltage as the cards are insanely power limited. The undervolt slider is pretty much just a +performance slider as you will get higher clocks. The only problem is that its pretty much silicon lottery for when you undervolt becomes unstable.

@@Fezzy976 Ah lovely, simple solutions to complex problems. DLSS3 is much more than that, it's DLSS2 + nVidia Reflex + a frame interpolation. Might I say motion smoothing stands to rather ruin content for gamers and adds substantial latency. DLSS3, on the other hand, does NOT generate input lag. What you want is TV Game mode, which specifically avoids post-processing to deal with that issue. DLSS3 super accelerates the interpolation process AND so DLSS3 REDUCES input lag (unlike TV motion smoothing).

I do sim racing with ACC (and others but Assetto Corsa Competizione is the hardest sim on the GPU using Unreal engine 4) with triple 1440p monitors (Total of 2560x3x1440 pixels). ACC has FSR and DLSS. I wander if a 6950XT OCked allows me to be at 120fps average using FSR Quality. I've seen a bench on ACC between 7900XTX and 4080 and the 4080 runs 13% faster. ACC could be a Nvidia game meaning a 3080 is faster than a 6950XT. Trying to find the best deal to get those 120fps at least...any comment is welcome. Not keen on spending 1200+EU for a GPU.

Great video. The name of the card should have been the 7800xtx. To summarize: if you don’t want any troubles(drivers) do not buy an AMD card. I think the 6900xtx is well priced though with the shortage of chips and price increase of deliveries overseas. Plus inflation. The 4080 is still the way to go in that ball park just for ray tracing and DLSS 3 if you play single player games. Still happy with my 4090! What a beast!

There are known issues with power draw that are being worked on, it will come down but probably not to 4080 levels due to the bigger node. About the 3090 Ti being better value, in what market is it cheaper? Where I'm from the 3090 Ti is about $1300 and XTX AIBs with three power connectors start at $1200 like the upcoming Pulse. I would exclude CP2077 from RT comparisons, but it's fine for testing raster.
