Anything that is not a complete ghetto build is described as "no expense spared" these days. Shim-less buckets in the head? Lightweight flywheel for twin plate clutch? Under-drive accessory drive pulley? New valve seat inserts to suit oversized valves? (he didn't say what size the valves are, probably not big enough to require new seats.) Those Tomei cams have minimal lift increase over standard so they can be used with standard springs, hence they are good for about...160hp. Crank angle sensor? (for more accurate ignition timing than cam drive) I could go on for ages, the things I have listed are really common amongst 4AGE modifiers. Kids these days have no idea about engine modification, they love bling parts as if they spend all their time looking at Instagram or TikTok or something, yet they have no idea how engines really work. There's nothing wrong with Old Mate's build, it's just not even close to what is possible.

@NickPahls
@NickPahls 3 жыл бұрын
@@isaactezza well if you used a 7afe head gasket the cooling ports are smaller than the 4AGE head gasket and don’t allow enough coolant to flow through the head. People have discussed using a 7A gasket and complained about the overheating issue. I am using a 7A gasket in mine and have noticed it runs hotter so I’m planning on switching back to a 4AG gasket soon.

If you want better B/E bearings for the rods you can machine new tangs and then run SR20 ACL race bearings.
@GuitarMan91
@GuitarMan91 3 жыл бұрын
The King OE series is what Barry at MRP recommended to me for the rods. All of the bearings have just been dry-film coated by my engine builder so I’m hoping they’ll last a good while.
@davidwebb9646
@davidwebb9646 3 жыл бұрын
I also had my rods (long rod kit) from MRP i decided to look for better alternatives as with higher power and higher revs on the 7afe crank I wanted so extra insurance. Due to the 1thou extra clearances on the race bearing the bearing clearances worked out perfect no machining of the crank required. Just though I’d share. I had a very similar build to yours some years ago. My only change would have been to go bigger on the cams. These 7age really need a big cam to rev. Much more than you would expect. Good luck with the build.

A mild 4age Red top build makes about 160. With those pistons and the longer stroke you should definitely have a lot of compression which will bump up power not to mention more displacement. I would shoot for 180 my dude.

@@erwinschmied I’ve seen vastly mixed results with engines like these. A guy in NZ with a hi comp big cam 9AGE with a dry sump was getting around 160hp. Hey, can you please elaborate on using the 4agze dizzy for COPs?? I have a 4agze on megasquirt and am dealing with a trigger wheel setup right now.
@GuitarMan91
@GuitarMan91 3 жыл бұрын
This comment might be long. Mark from Panic Wire gave me this tip for the COP conversion. The normal 4age dizzy/cam angle sensor has a trigger wheel inside of it with 4 teeth. It sends pulses through the wires to fire all 4 of the plugs and injectors on every stroke. The dizzy from the supercharged 4agze specifically, I’m not sure if NA has them as well, has (I believe) 32 teeth on the internal trigger wheel. So it can read and send more detailed timing information, and allow for full sequential ignition/injection. Eliminating the need for a separate crank trigger wheel and Hall effect sensor. I sent mine to Mark when I had my harness made so he could modify the plug and build a trigger map off of it. If you google 4agze distributor you should find some images of the trigger wheel inside. Might be worth taking yours apart to see if you have the proper one. Hope that helps!

i love the 4age really much. but why didnt you go bigger with the engine? You could swap A 3sge beams. I know it will be slightly more expensiv. No offense because im really looking forward to this build. But i thought building a 7afe is more a lowbuck mod?
@GuitarMan91
@GuitarMan91 3 жыл бұрын
No offense taken. I’ve driven Corollas with 4AGE and Beams swaps before and I really love the feeling of the 4A platform. Something about it is just right. I bought my 16v 4A engine a few months after I got the car back in 2014 so I’ve had it for quite some time now. Decided to go 7AG a couple of years ago for some added torque. Doing the 7A bottom is a more affordable way to have essentially a 4AG stroker, compared to buying a stroker kit for the 4A block. Replacing the crank is necessary to do that and is quite costly.
@Shadowdarknessone
@Shadowdarknessone 3 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarMan91 i know. im at the fullest in the poor 86 owners life. and im doing that swap on a budget rn. Because i cant afford a beams. its kinda a meme to put a beams in a 86. But these are just great engines. I have 4age race engine parts. But i wanna experiment a bit with lighter pistons and longer rods. (cheapo ones)
@GuitarMan91
@GuitarMan91 3 жыл бұрын
@@Shadowdarknessone a good friend of mine has a Beams in his Corolla and it’s a really great swap. Easy way to make a reliable 200hp. There’s a good reason it’s so popular. He’ll have some videos on this channel pretty soon. The rods and pistons I’m using in my build are very light, and fairly affordable compared to other options.

Guys spends $Thousends and $Thousands of $$ on building a mad 7AGE. Decides to use the cheapest Link ECU. WTF??? the bloody thing only has 5, 0-5V inputs. which means after MAP (yes you still need a MAP sensor on an ITB engine for best results for density correction) and IAT that leaves only 3 GP inputs. At least spring for the Monsoon with it's on board MAP sensor and 6 GP inputs. Other than that looks like a riot ;)
