Can we use these phrasal verbs with formal writing?
@7ESLLearningEnglish3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Phrasal verbs are by nature a little informal, but they are used in all but the most formal writing. I would avoid them in something like an academic paper. This dates all the way back to Middle English, where the phrasal verbs, ultimately derived from Germanic languages, were used in ordinary speech, while the verbs derived from Latin were used by the clergy and by monks, who were often the only people who could write.
