Appreciating the love for Paul D’amor. Justin is great but Paul seems to not get the credit he should for the sound on tool’s early work.

So Im guilty of playing with a pick mostly, but man you are really inspiring me to start developing my my finger style, your covers and technique is just insane! You deserve a lot more subs man, hope you get there \m/ And a 30min medley, awesome work!
@7sloth4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much man. I appreciate that. Sounds awesome that you’re going to develop your finger style. Extending your dynamics and techniques can never hurt. Also if you ever accidentally drop a pick at a gig at least you’ll be able to tear it up with your fingers!!
@DaxterZA4 жыл бұрын
@@7sloth For sure! My problem is just I cant get the clarity out compared to what you sound like for example. But Im sure Ill get there with practice
@7sloth4 жыл бұрын
Dusty Jackal it can be tricky, especially when it comes to switching between the two techniques. I find I have to compromise on certain aspects of tone to find a middle ground where both pick and finger sound good. But you’re right, I think you’ll get it down. Experimenting with your hands placement when plucking the strings finger style can really help get some more clarity. I find there are different sweet spots on various bass guitars depending on the positioning and style of the pickups.
@DaxterZA4 жыл бұрын

nice new fortress man (if that is indeed new haha). hope you make a video on how you setup your bass for those sounds. its too gnarly for fingerstyle it's almost pick like without the harsh high end. really interesting.

@7sloth4 жыл бұрын
illdude696 I have played quite a few thumb basses. I own the Thumb Bo Ltd 2006 which I really like. I find the Warwick fortress more comfortable and balanced for live purposes, and an amazing fit for aggressive music. The sound and tone from the thumb bass is so unique and superb for recording though. I think thumbs have an insanely wide range of dynamics.

Aaron S there’s so much attack coming from his technique, strings and bass choice come on man, no pick needed here
@AaronScutt4 жыл бұрын
@@DANnuclearrabbitDAN I disagree my friend...I told him he's a beast, I love him. But I was glad he picked on this one. You cannot play that D across all the strings like that with your fingers and get that sound...MAYBE if you had some crazy flamenco finger nails or something. There's a reason he picked it when he fingers almost everything else.

Ayyyyyeeee nice Fortress!!! How you like it compared to your other one?
@7sloth4 жыл бұрын
It’s a different beast. I’m really happy with it. Still wearing it in a bit. A much different character in comparison to my original fortress. I’ve yet to set this one up to my preferences as far as action and strings. This one has lovely clarity and note definition, but the other fortress is awesome for gritty attack and presence. Very excited to add some more variety to my arsenal and explore more possibilities with this bass.

Thank you. I usually use Ernie ball . I just got the bass the other day and it came strung already. I’m not 100% sure what they used. I basically pulled it out the box, tuned up and recorded this.

@@7sloth They appear to be on the thin side. Do you prefer lighter strings or the increased string tension of a heavier gauge? I am kind of stuck between the ease of the left hand with a lighter gauge and the ease of the right hand with a heavier gauge. Any tips? Keep it up, I watch every video of yours.
