I don't mind how blunt Jason can be as he is honest. He is the man who showed how a team sport is played and he is the best full forward I have ever seen . Yes others kicked more goals but he gave a few away and he played for the team and for the Premierships. I guarantee Ablett, Locket and others would trade all their goals for a Flag !

@vestanpance995 жыл бұрын
I’ve had enough of this argument that Dunstall's goals resulted from being in a great team. When Hawthorn was in their golden era, they would win games with 8 or 9 different goal scorers minimum. Dunstall ws sharing the forward line with prolific goal scorers like Brereton and Buckenara, as well as major goal contributors in Platton, Tony Hall, Darren Pritchard, Morrisey and any number of others who'd score regularly. From 1992 onwards, Dunstall was Hawthorns ONLY focus up front and started to kick regular big hauls (i.e 17 goals in a game and 145 in a season) as opposed to being more of a 4 to 5 goal a game scorer. So, if anything Locket benefited from being the ONLY option for St Kilda up forward (apart from maybe Stuart Lowe for a while). There’s basically nothing splitting Locket and Dunstall, especially not the quality of teams they played in.
@chrisfi3d5 жыл бұрын
Vestan Pance - agree with all that except the last bit. Plugger was playing for St Kilda in the 80’s and still dominating. Big difference between hawthorn and st kilda mid 80’s to early 90’s

Ves I think it can be debatable like many other debates other sports for e.g legends against each other.Me personally I can't separate both plugger and J.D, people may and that's fair enough I respect their opinions.Maybe plugger was more the focal point at the Sainst that Dunstall was especially with that such a dominant forward line of the great team from the 80's:)

multiple forwards kicking 100+ in the same year, and some over 120 in a year. They were the days. After the completion of the 2020 minor round, the leading goal kicker has 42, followed by 32 in 2nd place. I realise 2020 is different because of Covid19, but nonetheless, how times have changed!

One of the true champions of the game who could dominate and destroy a game. A privilege to have watched him play at the same time as Plugger, God, Modra, Rocca, the last era of the true full forward. Would be the goals record holder and a brownlow winner but for a bit of bad luck.

In all my 40+ years of watching AFL I've never seen a ball kicked and it landing right on the top tip of the goal post or point post either for that matter. I've seen the footy hit high up on the goal post but never ever on the top tip. Im hoping I do see it one day but it seems like a very rare thing to ever happen. If it does ever happen it will be a fluke because you could try it 10,000 times from any distance and it would never happen. Has anyone else ever seen it happen ??.....

@hanajinks I'm a Hawk, so I'm not unbiased. Ablett was amazing, he could turn a game like no one else. He tended to go missing in big matches but. Plugger was a colossus, and when not injured/suspended was fantastically consistent, and his presence was phenomenal. Dunstall had great consistency in 88/89 and 92-94, but was a bit hit and miss in other seasons. On individual seasons, I'd say Plugger in 91 was the best, followed by Dunstall in 92, then Gazza in 93. As for overall, I can't split Plugger and Dunstall. I'd take either of them over Ablett, just. Hudson, McKenna, Coleman et al were before my time
