The basic education advocacy group Equal Education (EE) says it has noted the appointment of a new incumbent, Siviwe Gwarube, in the role of minister of basic education in South Africa.
The organisation says the incumbent, Siviwe Gwarube will be expected to account first to the millions of learners, parents, teachers, communities and members and the South African public she serves, and to prioritise the delivery of equal and quality education for all.
Equal Education (EE) Secretary General, Noncedo Madubedube, and the Executive Director of the National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), Basil Manuel, they both join us virtually on their views on what needs to be prioritised.

DA don't play with most of they young Ministers. Minister of BE, Minister of DOHA & Minister of Infrastructure, they are all young, and I'm still catching up with these new ministers and they departments. Lets hope they can deliver and is understandable that our people hate change, but change is needed. At some point, all we have to do is wait and give them the benefit of the doubt and move forward. We need to be negative and expect change, but yet we to scared for change when theres different people appointed. Lets give them all a chance to prove themselves more than we can and will judge after some time because we are where we are because of ppeople that didnt wanted to provide services to the citizens of this country. Lets support them and judge them later. If we were able to be patient with the ANC for 30 years, these people haven't even started working, and we are already negative and talk bad. Lets have patience and let them do they work without too much pressure. We wanted young people to be in parliament, so here they are lets support them, and they can do great with a supporting country behind them.

@@SimonMadidimalo-dz4qc This is why we need Fine Arts in our curriculum, because ignorant people like you have not progressed to see the benefits of this vitally important medium. An educational medium that encompasses critical thinking, creativity, social cohesion, confidence, reading and writing. Creative thinking involves the interplay of the brains default and executive control networks. The result, these connections spontaneously generate ideas and critically evaluate them. Any child will benefit regardless of what they choose to study. Our white schools historically had Fine Arts. Why do you think they so progressive? The Americans are an example. I am an example. The only thing the DA needs to do is make the education curriculum the same across the board. So that every child has the same education. Why is there a difference in the curriculum in the first place since the ANC took over? Were they not supposed to change it as well? Why is there also a difference between provinces' curricula? The minister of Education is not yet started, now they are putting pressure on her, why people especially the High Profile Senior members of government and the Politicians did not raised their issues for 30 years under ANC Mam Angie. Ofcourse there must be equal education meaning that all learners will pay or not pay school fees with free Grant school meals and Transport regardless of their parent's Class, because Gorvement schools were not paying a cent for school fees with free breakfast meals, free scholar Transport, free textbooks while learners of Public schools are paying school fees amounting to R1250.00 per Month = R15000.00 per year. without a Grant free meals or Government scholar Transport, the reason being that the Government' is categorizing and prioritising the learners from the rich, Middle Class and the poor which is a tendency for the Government's unfair of Non Approval of NSFAS Bursary to the University middle class students. My 2 granddaughters started from Grade RR -R, and and from Grade 1 - 7 at Gauteng Province Tshwane with the same amount of school fees and they are still paying school fees, one at Grade 9 and Grade 5.

Wish she could change the mother tongue system in foundation phase. Just imagine mathematics in mother tongue. Am not actually against mother tongue that but against the reality that this doesn't work more especially when these children reach grade 4. To them its like grade 1 or grade R because they have to learn in new language which is English. And all the subjects are now in English...beginning from terms name of objects SO CONFUSING. MOST OF THE LEARNERS FAIL NOT BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW THE SUBJECT ITSELF BUT BECAUSE OF LANGUAGE

Did goggo Angie had a PHD why did you lady not question to Angie now she is minister of defence she has no military experience and why does the ANC keep on old people so many of these ANC ministers are pensioners they should be looking after their families and grand children. The ANC must appoint younger ministers and not pensioners

I So wish she could stop this "Mother Tongue-based Bilingual Education" policy. Its a waste of the state's funds which could be used to resource our under-resourced schools and its going to limit our learners to only understanding their home languages. All schools should be English medium schools from grade R, that will solve the problem of grade 4s not being able to comprehend what they read.

I can hear all of you but failure to approach and justify the contributory factors that might affect your effort like children s rights that children were given by government of which I believe is the major issue between the teacher and the learners

@@thusoramakobya7054 who said it must happen now since it's DA's job 🤷🤔?... I dnt really care which party does what it's what I think should happen long b4 this elections ... Many of us were saying this long b4 that it's a mistake to lower the pass mark period! The question is do you or do you NOT want the pass mark to change?😂 Dude it's not going to be easy to get marks but I think it's a standard worldwide that way we can have more learner/students/professionals that can compete successfully on the world stage.

Stop holding children back for a year..That causes major problems in children.It’s a fact.Don’t fail children, they should always stay with kids their own age through school.
@cathypotgieter6345
@cathypotgieter6345 6 күн бұрын
@@p.srussell3899 If children are not coping they need to repeat(this happened in the days before the ANC).Children who continue to underperform need to be assessed as soon as possible and they need to receive remedial education from trained remedial teachers (there are not many of thdm around)as soon as possible.One cannot keep on passing a child because he must stay with his own age group.That kind of child realises sooner or later that he is not coping and in order to draw attention away from his weakness in the academia he becomes the class clown and a huge discipline problem for the teacher.Struggling learners NEED early intervention to help them reach their full potential.
