A quick medley of The Girl I Left Behind Me and Garry Owen played on banjo # 166.
Offering this one up as an extra at a slight discount (reflecting my recent base price increase) due to some crack issues with the bottle gourd in which case I was able to glue and splice (mainly on the back edge, thus making it with a wooden back for more support). If interested, feel free to reach out via my contact form on my website: clinebanjoworks.weebly.com/co...
Otherwise, I will list it soon on the Banjo Hangout Classifieds.
Listed here: www.banjohangout.org/classifi... - Sold
23” scale length, walnut and white oak neck, book-matched white oak flat-back piece and gourd heel cap (taking care of supporting the gourd’s stem base which cracked while cutting the dowel hole), ebony tailpiece with copper wire tailgut, secured with an ebony button and brass screw into the dowel (using a dowel I had already made up, which was just about an 1” too short for my regular block tailpiece), also serving as a strap button along with another on the heel (with a beehive theme). Raw brass Gotoh pegs.
Tuning: eBEG#B (gDGBD relative)

Sounds great! I sort of like the crack repair. Gives it some extra mojo. I have shattered a couple of decent gourds trying to true up the edge on my big belt sander and it grabbed. The other day I was helping cut the dowel holes through one for a beginner builder and I called my little vibrating hobby saw the "Gourd Scrapper 6000". I may have been watching too much Vice Grip Garage.

Thanks! One crack (on the tail end) was contributed by myself as I dropped it checking the heel fit…it just slipped on out of my hand. Thankfully, I had already glued the back panel on so that helped hold everything to an extent, just had to mend the crack. I’ve dropped a couple. Sometimes I’ve had them crack while cutting them open, but sometimes either the crack was already there (in what I call the “veins” of the gourd), or hit a soft spot (sometimes where the gourd rested while growing). Satisfying though when you get one to make through the building process.
