I commented on a video 2 days ago and now i've binged watched all of them haha! You're such a great teacher and the quality is amazing. I have a question and i never saw a video on this : How can i build dissonance in chords with open strings in DADGAD?

Thanks very much! I'm really glad you're getting value out of the videos. It's comments like this that encourage me to continue making them. So it's very much appreciated. Regards building dissonance. It would kind of depends on how much dissonance you want to create. Just like standard tuning, dissonance can be created by playing non-harmonic tones together. A tri-tone or minor 2nds are very dissonant. Then there's a 7th chord in a major key is a bit dissonant. So in the key of D Major, that would be C# diminished (m7♭5). In DADAD that's fingered like this: X4202X. It want to resolve to the tonic, D Major. I like to create a bit of dissonance or tension in a tune by using chords like the V of the relative minor. So in the key of D major, B minor is the relative minor and F# is the V of B minor. If you make that F# into a F# dominant 7, it really wants to get resolved. And one way to do that would be to go from that F#7 into the Bm, onto the the G (IV of D Maj) onto the A (V of D Maj) and then resolve to the root, D. So the fingering for that I-III7-vi-IV-V-I progression in DADGAD would be: 050200, 4423XX, X2405X, 5X5400, 7X7600, 050200. I hope that makes a bit of scenes. If not let me know and I'll send you a quick video over email 👍

Hi Coyne! I hope you can still reply the comment , Is there also shape about diminshed chord in DADGAD?
@aodancoynemusic2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes here's the movable diminished chord shape that I use mostly: Eg. F° = 3-2-3-1-X-X You can move that shape up the neck to get the rest of your diminished chords: Eg. G° = 5-4-5-3-X-X, A° = 7-6-7-5-X-X etc. Hope that helps 👍

@@aodancoynemusic Thank you for reply! I got into DADGAD thinking I can play variation extended music like estas tonne does with my creative ideas not only copied his music, Could you listen David's entry that isone of his song?(it's being used movable diminished chord as a variation indigrient, and I was attempting play same chord in DADGAD to see if it's work.. but noy yet so far)

That sounds like a great tune. Best of luck with transcribing it to DADGAD. I think it could sound nice 👍 Let me know how you get on 🎸

Love those chords. I sometimes add the ninth, which gives the chord an even jazzier flavour. A quick way to get some patronising glances from diehard traditionalists.... 😂

Lol, ya that's for sure 😂 I'll have to do a video on 9th chords at some point!
