We are starting IEW 1B this year and I'm really excited. I always learn so much from your curriculum videos.

Here in Oregon where I used to teach in the classroom, they did spelling through 5th grade. Then it was just fixing spelling in writing. 😃

That's good to know! Thank you for sharing! Maybe this will be our last year for spelling curriculum. I'm sure he'd love that! :)

Algebra I at 7th! Way2Go! We wish that was our progression for our uprising 9th grader but we missed the mark for him so he'll take it this year. We hope to have our other two attack Algebra I sooner.

He does a pretty good job, but it also helps that I made a mistake and skipped an entire level of math on accident. :) I got mixed up and skipped level 6/5! Once I realized my mistake, it was too late and he was managing just fine with 7/6 and so we just went with it! I don't think the rest of our kiddos will advance at this rate in the future!

Love love the music study. How does he learn piano on the road? My daughter loves music but we are super rural so lessons haven’t been an option for us.

Yes, I'm excited about the music study, too! He has a piano teacher that is willing to do lessons over Facetime! While it's not ideal, it's better than not having lessons at all. It also helped that he had in-person lessons prior to going on the road and he had a basic understanding of piano! Anytime we are back at our homebase we try to accommodate in person lessons!

My son is doing Shormann Math Algebra 1 with a 1/2 credit of Geometry next year. And I think its crazy lol. I always say... we can slow down if it gets too hard... but we haven't had to yet, so I guess we will just see how he does next year.

Exactly. That's what I say as well. That's the beauty of homeschooling. We get to choose when to speed up or slow down to fit the needs of our kids!

For spelling do you use the teacher book? How do you use the Abeka book?
@livingthegandeelife55652 жыл бұрын
No, I don't have a teacher book. Before he begins the list, we do a pre-test. I have him spell the words as best as he can without having practiced them. If he gets them correct right off the bat, then he does not need to practice those words for the week. After that, I just have Gabriel write the missed words for the following two days, use the words in a sentence the third day, and then on the fourth day he writes the words once and does the activities with that list. On the fifth day I give him a spelling test of those words he's been practicing. Whatever he misses he needs to re-write again!! Hopefully that makes sense! :)
