We got in the lab with New York 7th grader Mel Mel aka Magic Mel!! Mel has been KILLIN IT in the New York basketball scene lately, so we wanted to see what he's been up during these COVID times. If you know Mel, you know nothing, not even a pandemic, will stop him from getting in that work!
Mel showed us a bunch of his ball handling and shootings drill and introduced us to his trainer Ky. Mel goes game speed in everything, and that's why he can use all the moves he works on in the gym in an actual game. His handle is SUPER fast, and he's got lots of crafty moves in the bag. Mel plays with guys 2, 3 years older a lot, so he has to always play smart and hard.

It's still too early to tell whether or not he'll be good enough to make the NBA or even go to D1. It's no secret that basketball is a tall man's game, which is largely genetic and something out of your control, so the question is, will he grow to be at least 6 ft 3? 6 ft 3 may be short by NBA standards but you have to realize that only 3% of the male population is this height or taller. So yes NBA players are HUGE and height is the major barrier that prevents many people from ever going pro. All I can say is good luck and I hope this kid wins the genetic lottery and grows to be at least 6 ft 5.
