Farewell Chris. I was 14 when this series was broadcast. By David’s first series I had aged a bit more and by his second, I was 16 and went off Who for a few years as David Tennant didn’t impress. So NuWho S1 arrived *just* at the right time in my life for me. Christopher Eccleston - you were *MY* Doctor!

Well it’s the end of Eccleston. It’s a shame he only lasted one season because he was great! This was definitely a stand out finale no doubt. Funny story I remember is before the episode went out on first broadcast, friend of mine had a theory that Jack was in league with the Daleks and was their emperor. So glad he was wrong

It’s interesting for me to remember back on this. It all felt so epic and magnificent at the time, and for a while I genuinely considered it the best 45 mins of ‘Doctor Who’ ever. The show I’d considered dead and gone was more alive than it had ever been. Bear in mind that just a year earlier, the Daleks had been a comedy gag in ‘Looney Tunes: Back in Action’. It had been pretty cool to see them in that movie, but they’d still just been a joke. That was how the world saw them in the early 21st century - a joke. Now they were back for real, and in 2005 they were a serious threat. Once again they were up there with the greatest sci-fi villains - up on the highest rung with Darth Vader, Khan, the Klingons, the Martians from ‘War of the Worlds’ etc The Daleks were BACK. And killing people by the millions. And then we had the regeneration to top it off. I wish they’d somehow managed to keep that a secret but it was leaked all over the newspapers months earlier. Eccleston was amazing in his single season - one of the best Doctors ever. The fact that the revived show is still going today, almost 20 years later, is a testament to the strong foundations put in place in 2005.

Farewell 9th Doctor, one of my top 4 favourite Doctors (1 and 7 being two others, the 4th? you haven't got there yet). I love Chris's portrayal of the Doctor, the trauma lingering just under the surface and his arc of this season being one of acceptance and coming to terms with what he thinks he's done and Chris performs it perfectly and I will always love the ending to the Doctor Dances "just this once, everybody lives". Season 1 overall is one of my favourite seasons of new Who and I'm glad you both enjoyed it very much. Also here's a quote from the actress Maureen O'Brien (who played Vicki) about her view on the 9th Doctor "For me, he is the most convincing successor to William Hartnell because he has a quality of danger, real danger. A guy who if you get on the wrong side of him could really allow his rage to run away with him, but he keeps it in check. I think for kids that's really important. We'll follow this guy, we'll go with this guy and he's also a man on a quest. A man with a purpose. A man with a passion. And I think all those things could have come directly from Bill and since he's supposed to be an embodiment of Bill, since they all are, I think he's a really serious contender"

You Asked how many daleks props they had: I believe they only had 3 Daleks (the 3 you see in that Hallway scene where they get shot at to 0 effect). Plus a extra from Dalek was a backup that they used as a SFX prop (the Mutant at the end of Dalek and the damaged Dalek after Jack blows it up are the same prop, you can see that it has the Gold stripe across its waist, whereas the Daleks made for this story are fully brown) Shots like the one where the Daleks march in formation to attack the base were created by them filming the same 3 daleks over and over again then stitching the shots together. And all of the flying scenes + Backround daleks were CGI.

There is a book called "Dr. Who and the Time War" that was written by Russell T. Davies himself before the existence of the War Doctor (John Hurt) RTD's original intension was to have the Eighth Doctor be the one to have fought in the Time War which the book ended with the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) regenerating into the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston).

The way I see it, the Dalek Emperor managed to break the Doctor. Throughout their exchanges, the Emperor keeps picking at the Doctor's guilt and trauma over having destroyed the Time Lords along with the Daleks. So when the point came for the Doctor to make the same kind of decision again, he couldn't go through with it.

Rumour has it that there was an alternative ending where Eccleston Doctor survived but Rose was dying, with the alt was shown to the press before airing to keep the regeneration secret/act as a if Eccleston was going to stay. Of course the BBC announced the Regeneration as Revival S1 began airing so the suprise was lost.

I prefer the classic regenerations over the modern ones because the classic ones were always creative and artistic and I like that it was done with a new special effect every time and when the Doctor lays down because it makes it look like he's actually dying, though with NuWho I was intrigued with the golden glow highlander regeneration the first time round with Eccleston because it was new and different at the time but now it has become a really tired trope and I wish they would get back to laying down and regenerate with a different effect.

I never did understand. How could Rose hold onto the time vortex for at least a couple of minutes with no long-term health effects, when the Doctor couldn't handle it for more than 20 seconds without it effectively killing him?
@andrewroberts299Ай бұрын
This! 100% That whole sequence just didn’t work in that context.
@7thHourFilmsАй бұрын
Perhaps it was just a matter of building energy. Like the longer Rose had it, the worse it was. So once The Doctor took it, it was at a critical point thus hurting him much faster.

@@7thHourFilms that’s a good plausible explanation. Shame it wasn’t addressed in the 9th Doctor’s last speech, or in 10th’s first story.

11:18 They only had 3 Dalek props. It's not exactly CGI, it's a lot of cutting up the frame to double up the same props, I believe. You've seen the Emperor Dalek before, he's in The Evil of the Daleks, which you watched a LONG time ago now. On the twist thing, I dunno what show that is, but I know that the people behind The Simpsons have said they found someone online in the 90s who figured out Who Shot Mr Burns perfectly. I've seen speculation that Harry Potter was changed because people figured out potential twists. Total Wipeout didn't begin until 2009 (Based on the 2008 US show Wipeout), so that would have been a tad difficult to do in 2005. "Most schools have a mascot." Not in the UK. School sports aren't really a thing here. After school football or other sports might be a thing, but we don't have "teams". Certainly this entire industry of school sports being a major thing people follow and attend games for, is absolutely not a thing here. Even at university level, if you're in the netball or football team, I guarantee nobody else will care.
@alexbruce9499Ай бұрын
Although it's not clear whether it's intended to be the same Dalek Emperor from Evil of the Daleks, or a different Dalek Emperor. I mean, they also saw another Dalek Emperor in Remembrance of the Daleks, but it happened to be Davros holding the title.
