Rev // har ek program transaction nahi hota, jo program atomic ho vo transaction hota hai // a set of instructions is a program, from a programmers perspective partial execution of a program is ok, but for the user it is not ok as user sees atomic result (as in case of transaction) // dbms ka konsa module atomicity ka dhyaan rakhta hai - transaction management component (ensures atomicity) // isolation doesnt refer to the physical isolation ki ek time pe ek hi cheez hogi, instead we can define it by saying // if a transaction is executing actually isolately (alone) or it is executing with a number of transactions but the result is same in both cases then we say that the transaction follows isolation // concurrency control component ensures isolation // durability - changes made should persist, taken care by recovery management component // benefit of partially committed - taaki aage koi dikkat aajaye toh we can easily rollback // we cannot rollback a committed transaction, however we can a write a new transaction to compensate the harm done by this transaction, such a transaction is called compensating transaction. // dirty read - uncomitted transaction ki value read karna // unrepeatable read - ek value ko 2 baar read kare aur dono baar value alag alag aaye // phantom read problem - can't read this variable now because this variable is now deleted // blind write - jab koi transaction kisi value ko read kiye bina usko write kare // serial schedule and non serial schedule // transactions ki koi bhi independent instructions aap miss nahi kr sakte, jitni hain utni execute hongi hi // context switching is allowed but ham kisi transaction ke andar ka sequential order change nahi kar sakte // serial - jab tak ek transaction pura khatam nhi hota tab tk dusra start nahi kar sakte. If we have n transactions then total different serial schedules we can design are n! // non serial - one or multiple context switches take place // In serial even if no concurrency - concurrency gurranteed (safe) // In non serial problem may occur (unsafe)

Sir, I have a doubt As the processor executes only one instruction, then the time taken by Transaction T1 and T2 in the case of both serial schedule and non-serieal schedule should be same as the InstructionCount(T1) + InstructionCount(T2) is constant for both the schedules. If this is the case then what is the benefit of non-serial schedule over serial schedule
@jha_jprabhat Жыл бұрын
While it's true that the total instruction count may remain the same in both schedules, the benefit of a non-serial schedule lies in concurrency and potentially improved system performance.

Sir,for S1,n is number of transactions but in S2 n(i) is the number of instructions in i th transaction. Am I right sir?

sir how is a non serial schedule efficient than serial won't the total time for executing t1 and t2 transaction be same in both cases and moreover won't t2 slow down the commit of t1 in non serial case because it could have happened earlier
