Love the techniques. I think this is something I will take some time to learn how to do, I don't know if I would use it in place of all my metal shackles, but it's definitely something great to have in one's skill set when there are no chandleries around!

this is awesome! the applications for this is fantastic. Jib sheets! Preventors, I bet all your halyards could use this line! Nice! Why bother making an eye then buying a metal shacke? Love this!

You had to pull the whole rope thru the core. That's potentially a lot of rope if we're talking about a spinnaker sheet. I've seen other people do this without having to do that.

I wonder if this could be done with old rope where the cover has gone stiff. The final bury is the only tricky part.
@Premiumropes4 жыл бұрын
That would be difficult

Should I tighten the shackle knot before cutting off the ends? That way the ends don't get sucked back threw the. Knot?
@Premiumropes2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's advisable! Otherwise it's also hard to tighten the knot without the ends!

Can you give the ratios for lengths needed for different diameters of rope please?
@Premiumropes3 жыл бұрын
For a Dyneema eye splice, you should take at least 60 time the diameter of the rope back into itself (so additional to the length you need for the softshackle here). For the soft shackle, we advise 85cm of rope for a 4mm shackle, and for every additional 1mm in diameter, you'll roughly need an extra 10cm of rope. As you add an extra Dyneema core here, you would need a little less to make the softshackle.

Is there a similar splice to connect a soft shackle to a double braid polyester line (without Dyneema core)? My halyards are new polyester lines, and I like the idea of having a soft shackle attached to them... Maybe a very small eye splice, and then sewing the soft shackle to it so that it can't fall off? Do you have a better idea? Thanks in advance :)
@Premiumropes5 жыл бұрын
Not really. A double braided polyester line needs both core and cover for it's strength. If you splice the softshackle (version 2) around your eyesplice, that works really nice. We have a short video of that on our Facebook & Insta.

Hi Felix, The best way for a double braid polyester rope is indeed splicing a small eye and putting the softshackle in the eye. You could make a type 2 softshackle. This way it will remains locked. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5zQYmCEZqprla8

Hello! I intend to use this method on the mainsail halyard of my mini6.50. What is the safe working load of the splice on a 6mm line with 5mm dyneema core? Thank you!
@Premiumropes7 жыл бұрын
The safe working load is provided by the rope supplier. For a splice reduce this with approximately 10%.

is this possible to make with single braid, 8 strand, 7/64, hallow core cord?
@Premiumropes6 жыл бұрын
yes you can but you will probably need the D-Splicer F-10 www.premiumropes.com/splicing-rope/splicing-tools/d-splicer-fixed

Question for "splicing nerds".....can you splice a softshackle on BOTH ENDS of a rope? ;D Thanks! Oh, BTW, great videos!!
@Premiumropes4 жыл бұрын
Depends of the type of rope and the method. But splicing in a softshackle on both ends should be possible yes

I got to say I generally love all the stuff that you post, but this integrated soft shackle is a bit convoluted and overcomplicated.
