I really miss the old WPS-3016 sirens where I live. Every school I attended either had a 3016 on campus, or one within a mile. The 3016’s here have all been replaced by smaller units, which is sad. The new units aren’t nearly as loud, plus those 3016’s really had a bone chilling sound, the way I’ve heard them. They’re loud, and they always got the attention of everyone in the area. Really wish Whelen didn’t phase them out, definitely one of the best sirens there ever was.

I think, the main reason is, that this video contains siren sound DTMF and voice, all in one. As for video, it's perfect too. Fixed frame and siren and gray sky on the background.

Probably because this might be the only WPS-3016 with the 560 Hz tone?

EmeraldLucario nah there’s other 3016 videos with the 560hz controller

@crazycalvinwilliams9 жыл бұрын
Kieran Holdren The beeping sound is a DTMF tone. It's a string of numbers that tells the siren what to do.
@Fifthcell9 жыл бұрын
Are you supposed to hear them? They are usually not audible to residents of the area...
@Elizabeth-ts4om8 жыл бұрын
+Fifthcell if the siren is an amplified speaker then it is possible for the tones to be broadcast over the voice system

+BOB!theGMObanana No, if your on live voice and send the command while it's on live voice, it will be played out loud, or unless it's part of a recording.

+mike ray All of the Whelen sirens used to have ESC-864 controls but over the last 3-5 years Franklin EMA upgraded to the 560hz controls. I have no idea what the number model is, but I do know it IS Whelen's most recent controller model.

In frisco,texas where I live, you are not aloud to test on a cloudy or rainy day. becuase sometimes you don't here the rest announcement from inside, so people might think there is a actual tornado.

@nathanheaverlo96265 жыл бұрын
spidunno exactly. They’re designed to play tones that aren’t normal or common, so it gets your attention. Although here in Iowa, it’s hit or miss. We get siren activations due to tornado warnings multiple times a year, but people become numb to it. I really wish they’d randomize the tones, like not change the sound, but somehow make it unique and different when the sirens are activated for a true danger situation.

My question since i live in good ol' Grovetucky, Oh as well is...does the state of Ohio still follow the alert/attack tones for warnings cause all i ever here during testing is the long alert wale never the short attack wales?
@crazycalvinwilliams8 жыл бұрын
+Ivan Arnold To be 100% honest, I don't know. They always sound the siren for 20 seconds, rest them for 40, then sound them for 20 again, and I can't tell a difference between the tones.

You're wrong! It is a test. Every first wed. of each month, they conduct a voice test. The DTMF tones happen on our whole system. Practically all Whelens do it!

Caleb gagnon Actually, I filmed this siren, I know for a fact that this WAS a test, and besides, the weather in the video would have been a lot worse if it was a real tornado. Don't say something stupid because you were too lazy to read the video description.

It was obviously a test. Why would someone film a siren during a real tornado? Common sense, people!
