I'm glad Shwetabh talked about exploring Indian culture and philosophy at the end. I'm 21 and until last year I had ZERO interest in the subject of History. But then, the more I started listening to Indic minded think tanks in India, and started exploring history and philosophy on my own, the more I realized how disconnected we've become from a culture and certain values. And as he said, the lack of Artistic representation is a big part of it, especially in Movies, shows & Daily soaps. When you explore subjects like Geopolitics & Soft Power, you understand how important it is have your Cultural Identity represented throughout the World. You get a certain kind of respect everywhere you go. Almost every young anime fan in America and India thinks Japan is some kind of a dreamy Utopia. I also watch Movies & shows from other Asian countries like Japan, Korea, China. Their culture & their own understanding of it is always highlighted in their art. India had a very rich Culture & heritage, more vast than these countries. 4 major religious philosophies were originated in India, including Buddhism which spread in these countries by chance. Still it doesn't seem like We have any Soft power or a global cultural footprint on the World. You only come across toxic & derogatory stereotypes when talking to foreigners on social media. Wonder where we lost the plot. I strongly believe it's because of certain political ideologies like communism/marxism which had a strong hold on Indian society & Education policy at one point. The Urban elite communists were the first one's to get education in English and had a very strong hold on Artistic expression, Acadamia and History which is taught to us in syllabus even today. All of this is very hard to articulate to today's youth, because due to the current political climate, you instantly get branded as something you're not. I urge everyone to check out this amazing report on Indian Culture & Heritage by WION news channel - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnaQaZKYaKqHY9U

Surprisingly, The whole concept that you talked about by the end of integrating the Indian Culture and mythology with your own individual Fantasy stories was same thing I was thinking last night. The inspiration of this idea came to me when I was watching the trailer of anime called Blades of the Guardians which was surprisingly Chinese not Japanese. It is adaptation of Chinese "manhua". They call manga manhua in Chinese.

Our leaders and our cenema never wanted to spread our culture. I do not know that even with our mythologies, we can make movies. Indian mythologies are not limited to puranas only , there are smritis, shrutis. There are upanishad and many different philosophies. Bollywood just want to satisfy western audience, so it ignores indian culture.
@theplmotivationofficial

@@notnavlookaway Mythologies that are generally connected to relegion are sensitive. If you nake ramayana and show ram in bad light, it will hurt emotions of many. So if Mythologies that are identified with god should be made by devotees only. But atleast we can make movies on philosophy. Or we can make new characters that are related with mythology but not actually our god.

@@theplmotivationofficial it depends, if you write your own different storyline for him rejecting what's his true character is then it will definitely happen. There is also lack in the study of Shri Ram's character so people can only judge him or give him godly status.

@@yashhengne3056 Again it depends purely on story writing, Indian audience has already witnessed a lot regarding their influencial figures that they now gatekeep everything. Again on the story you mentioned it's important to show why Channakya will help her instead of joining the power struggle of the current regime?

Kannada content started to explore new possibilities from 2014 with movies like Ulidavaru Kandante and Lucia. So a steady rise from there. Kannada film industry actually lulled in the late 90s to early 2000s.

These 2 guys are genuinely the only ones whom I have been following for a long long time and with whom I'd really want to have conversations. You guys have to do another session asap. Perhaps Jammy could bring Shwetabh to his channel TRP for an unbiased opinion on bollywood films and what they are lacking as compared to their southern counterparts. Amongst other topics, of course. :)

Shwetabh bhai, there is an anime I wanted to recommend to you. Pehle hi bata raha hoon it is just 12 episodes long, and wont have any sequel seasons, it is a complete story. It is called 'Sonny boy' , it came last year and is heavily overlooked, largely because the style of storytelling itself is hugely different from what we usually consume, and for most of its run, feels like its leading to nowhere.It is an original story, coming from Director Shingo Natsume (very accomplished man, directed one punch man s1) and I am mentioning his name because he conceptualized, wrote and directed this anime all himself, i.e, it is entirely his vision. As for what the anime is actually about, is a little hard to describe, but basically, a bunch of teenage highschoolers get trapped in a reality separate from ours, with a lot of weird rules, where some enjoy special abilities. The end goal of the show, obviously, is to return to normal lives, but the things we discover along the way are really intriguing. Firstly, the worldbuilding of these separate realities is very bizzare itself, as the writing is not concerned with creating a world adhering to logic and with a lot of detail, rather the world will have elements and rules which the story uses to explore some very interesting ideas Director Natsume has about human and societal behaviour. Even being just 12 episodes, it requires patience to watch this anime, for it being terribly slow (I feel people nowadays give too much importance to pacing of a show), and as I said earlier, feels like it is going nowhere for most its run. Still, I am recommending this as you mentioned about stories that break the framework of human perception, and while I am not very sure of what you mean, as I myself havent consumed many stories like that, I feel like Sonny Boy does that. One thing I can promise (if you do stumble upon this absurdly long comment :P) and actually watch the anime, is that you'll be intrigued by it. As for where you can watch it, fortunately, it is available for free (legally) on youtube, on a channel called 'Ani-one Asia', in 1080p with english subtitles. Enjoy :)

It is now after he has retired he is telling all this. Legend

The point jammy made that bollywood movie's significant budget portion just goes to payment of actors is what i was thinking past few days. On one hand we have kgf2 having budget around 100cr on the other hand we have prem ratan dhan payo and race 3 having budget of 180cr and 130cr respectively. This also indicates how ineffecient they are in allocating resources and reliability on star power over script. Just imagine 180cr on prem ratan dhan paya😂😂

I wasn't not into movies until 2019. I'm still pretty naive in comparison to Cinephiles but In 3 years I've watched enough movies from different industry to say this. The biggest problem with Bollywood is lack of ability to go beyond the set formula. "People watch superstars". If you go for some creativity you don't earn. Anyone remember the film October? No you don't but if I say Varun Dhawan's October now you remember. Now you got my point. Aankho Dekhi is such a masterpiece in Hindi but half of us reading the comment haven't seen that. Khosla Ka Ghosla, Udaan, Photograph etc didn't earn.

Exactly .. our history was oral not because we didn't write it down but because the islamic invaders burnt our scholarly work .. the libraries burnt for months (yet people only talk about the Greek library)... So whatever knowledge people had in their minds started being narrated orally in the past few 100 years.. It's so annoying when people simply claim india didn't have written history 🤦‍♂️ The Brits 1st made the claim that indians are stupid they didn't write their history so we will write it for them .. and today we still learn the version of indian history that were written by Christian absolutists (who ofc had main objective to show how great white people and their religion are and browns are nothing but "uncultured") And the fact that most people still think that india did not have written history shows the indian historians after independence were still British babus and simply rehashed the Brit's opinions and propagandas ...

3 Things about India not preserving culture - 1st is most of the knowledge that we DID preserved was burnt away and then not passed down due to continued invasions and destruction of education institutions subsequently. 2nd is our principle of "knowledge" not belonging to a single person but meant to be shared so you can't have a copyright on that and third is the current education is basically western education and completely ignores Indian perspective on it's history and philosophies/discoveries. Even the manuscripts that we do have or the knowledge that we have managed to preserve is ignored and not taught in universities under Indic studies/school of thoughts which should be a thing.
