T stops (T for transmittance) is the light that actually hits the sensor; it can only be measured in a lab using some pretty expensive equipment. F stops are a theoretical value derived from your lens' focal length divided by the diameter of your aperture. Put very simply, the T-stop is the corrected, real-world value of the F-stop. For instance, an f/1.8 will often be more like a T/2.0.

Or why not the Tamron 17-70 f2.8?
@DarioSinger2 ай бұрын
@patrickgottschalk1826 The Tamron has a shorter range and is notva Power Zoom lens, and in videography, that's a plus. On the other hand, 18-105 is an F4 which compared to the Tamron F2.8 has some problem in darker environment but in daytime with sunny days F.4 is even too much. At night i usually using one of the Sigmas prime. The Tamron though could be very useful.

Absolutely the Sony 18-135mm, my favorite walk around lens. Not on your list but an amazing lens for wildlife is the Sony 70-350mm. what a great value for all that reach, if you need it. Bought it to photograph bears and iceboats and have found all kinds of other uses. It’s a little bulky but nothing like the heft of an equivalent full-frame lens (105-525mm) in weight or price.

I'd give props to the Sigma 18-35/1.8. The wider max aperture is much more useful than the 15mm it gives up on the telephoto end of the 18-50/2.8 when shooting video cos when shooting video with these lenses, most of the zooming is done with the feet anyway but it's much more difficult to account for depth of field and light gathering. I'd also like to give props to the Sigma 16/1.4, an excellent wide angle prime perfect for the vlog style shooting you do. While it doesn't have OS, wide angle lenses tend to be more forgiving, if handled correctly. Both of these lenses are quite heavy though, so using them with a gimbal will require a lot of careful balancing and, given how front heavy they will be, it helps to get a gimbal with stronger motors. But if you're mounting them on glidecams or using them handheld, you should do just fine.

T and f is two different things. T means how much light comes through the front of the glass and to the sensor. F means the diameter of the glass pretty much. T transmission is a more accurate measurement than F
@NigelDPresents8 ай бұрын
I was expecting the Sony 11mm F 1.8 lens.
@thefilmalliance8 ай бұрын
That would have been a great addition.
@JimmyFeelsIt8 ай бұрын
as far as I know, T and f are not different when it comes to the result but rather the way they are measured. f stops measure how far the lens opens to let in light while the T (transmission) depends on how much light actually gets in. An f/1.4 would be pretty much the same as a T/1.4 but it is a bit more accurate.
@thefilmalliance8 ай бұрын
Thanks Jimmy for the explanation. Ok now I understand
@jermainehayes19618 ай бұрын
I believe the T-stop measures how much light actually reaches the sensor while F-stop measures the aperture. I guess film needs that level of specificity.
@thefilmalliance8 ай бұрын
Thank you Jermaine, I knew someone would be out there with this information. That’s interesting isn’t it?

@charlieparis34546 ай бұрын
I believe that T and F when referring to aperture are different measurements of light, F is based off of the diameter of the aperture (it doesnt account for the lost of light through the lens elements) where as T is based off of how much light will reach the sensor so it will provide a more accurate number since it takes into account how much light fall off there will be as it travels through to the lens. I am fairly new to this concept so I might not have explained it 100% accurately but I think thats the idea behind it

But after my new lineup it will go on sale. Still, it's an affordable and lightweight zoom option with great wildlife focus due to great autofocus, good image stabilization and excellent image sharpness at 300mm (center frame). But when it comes to corner sharpness at 18mm, the lens falls far short of the 17-70 and any other prime option. Another lens for sale is the Sigma 16mm F1.4. Not for me. What camera did you end up liking more?

@@thefilmalliance well i like a6700 it's budget friendly solutions. I think who ever is buying this for safe side he/she should get external fan as a assessor for this. Currently I own a7iii but I this it is more value for money plus we have many good choices in f1.4 Apature Len's too

trying to watch these videos to educate myself after just buying my first camera (sony fx30) and its just waaaaay to complicated, to the point i started to wonder if you were still speaking english 🤣 i wish you guys would curate more videos for the beginner guy so its easier to follow these types of guides

I just want to mention tha the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 is not weather sealed but it has a rubber gasket around the mount piece, so, technically the camera is protected from dust and moisture, but not the lens in it's entirety. This is important because sony 16-55mm f2.8 is weather sealed all around the barrel and the mount piece, but it is still overpriced.

Wow thanks for letting me know. Sounds like it’s only good for mist or fog but not light rain or snow
@alindarko8128 ай бұрын
@@thefilmalliance, yeah, definitely should avoid shooting in rain or close to the sea, as the sigma 18-50 is a zoom lens so it is even more prone to get some water inside the barrel. Of corse, your camera body is protected, but the barrel itself not...

Is it just me or does cannon blow Sony out of the water with colors? Every video or Pic I see on here with Sony all look dull and boring. I'm looking for a camera and was leaning towards Sony but they all look like poo compared to what I've seen coming out of the cannons.

Are there any rumours of any new Telephoto lenses to come out soon for the APSC cameras that will be up to 350 range but around no more than f4?? or similar. I have the 55-210 and would rather hold out than go to the 70-350mm.

Although it's expensive, I really love the Sony 16-55 2.8 G lense. Excellent sharpness, and native auto focus. I use this and the sigma 56 mm prime with my a6700 for professional client headshots and they always deliver. Great video!

Awesome video! Btw, Tokina 11-18 2.8.. any feedback on that one? I’m thinking about getting it in combined with the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8.
