I had a Yamaha multi effects unit, it had some good sounds but I was editing the patches much more than I was playing the dopey thing ! And it never sounded on a gig as i had programmed it at home, I wore the white markers off of it ! But BOSS pedals ? In love with Boss pedals because they're real tools for real musicians. But I have to admit, after owning a few DS1s, I loved them all but a few weeks ago I got my first Japanese DS1... The first 10 minutes it was impossible for me to hear any difference between this and the made in Taiwan one but, boy, you start to roll off the volume knob on your guitar, your valves get hotter and voilà, what a pedal! Oh, God, the first time I got a pedal capable of doing what my lovely OCD does, shining in dynamics, being warm and balanced, aggressive and subtle... Ibanez had a pedal called overdrive from earlier in the 70s (years before the ts808 and OD1), but it was actually a fuzz. So the name was on a guitar pedal before the OD1. I'm selling my OD1 by the way. Was one of a handful that survived the storage theft of all my stuff, and since insurance wouldn't pay, having TS9, SD1 and OD1, when I need more stuff, the most valuable one has to go since the SD1 is close enough There were probably close to 30 boss pedals in my collection at the time. Love these things. And a few of them were rare and valuable :(. My first one ever was a BF2 and actually that one was in the bag with 6 other pedals that survived, including CE2 as well. It could have been worse, at least I still have those.

8:26 The Colorsound Overdriver came to market in 1971; 8:34 Tube Screamers were not a thing in 1977. The TS808 is a copy of the OD-1 with added tone control and symmetrical clipping. My first Boss pedal was a DS1 which I still keep at home. In mid 90's I started to play bass and I used several fx brands or no pedals at all. This year I decided to get a different overdriven bass tone and I got an used ODB3. This pedal has a bad reputation but I wanted to try it anyways. I was shocked because it's a very versatile bass overdrive if you know what are you doing with the knobs. For high gain overdrive bass tone it lacks of the clarity of the Darkglass stuff ( I use a B3K in my metal band) but it could do the job. My last Boss pedal was a BF3 flanger which I got used a couple of months ago. After looking for different options including other brands, the Boss flanger was the only which gave me the sound I hear in my head. Boss pedals are built to last, sound good and you can get them for a reasonable price in the used market.

BOSS SYB-3. I have two of them. As a bass player I love and need a synth-bass. I like some old analog synthesizers, but when the SYB-3 was released I immediatly knew I found what I wanted, picked-up one in 1996 just when it came out and still use it. I know it's monophonic and have tracking issues, but with its analog-like sounds simulating the '70s/'80s Roland SH-series waveforms, to me the SYB-3 is a tiny-essential Roland synthesizer. Plus the SYB-3 can be used as a Fuzz and a Wha, wich are the effects I like on a bass.

Boss Dual Drive is the best and the reason why is because I set my amp tone clean, then set dual pedal 1 to rhythm and dual 2 tone for slide.

I have a couple of Boss pedals still on my board, but my favourite is still the DS-1. Great little distortion pedal.

i was in a classic rock cover band for a while and the guitarist used a BOSS METAL ZONE with a RANDALL solid state combo and for everything from LED ZEP to THE EAGLES it sounded great and we weren't even doing anything one would consider "metal" (no METALLICA, SLAYER, MAIDEN, etc.) and it sounded incredible. you'd never know he wasn't using period vintage 70's equipment and that pedal wasn't even intended for that sorda thang.

Boss rocks. I love the SD1, and the DS1, but even better the blues driver and boost with an SD1. The harmonists is killer. Loads of good pedals. Boss has great products.

The other thing I heard Billy Duffy of the Cult say in an interview was that if they're on tour somewhere and a pedal breaks (which rarely happens), or the gear gets delayed, pretty much every store has them, so it's easy to get a replacements. My first Boss pedals were the SD-1 and the HM-2. The Powerstack is pretty great too.

I thought it was Vai that said that. maybe they both did haha. Either way, it's a good point.

Favourites I’ve owned... The Turbo Overdrive (Not an OD really, it’s actually a tight medium gain distortion), The CE2 Chorus, The DD7 delay, The OC2 Octave, The Metal Core, The Power Stack (love it), The OD3 overdrive, The AW-2 Autowah, The BF2 Flanger, The ‘63 Reverb, and more.

Replace the metal core with the new MT-2W-Waza Craft. Insane sound. If you want that old buzzing bee distortion it's there, but the upgrade is insane.
